Kenya’s Covid-19 death toll has passed 500-mark after Health officials on Wednesday reported 19 new fatalities.
Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said 18 of those who succumbed to the disease had underlying medical conditions, mainly diabetes, and hypertension.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country now stands at 506, representing a 1.6 percent mortality rate.
379 new Covid-19 infections were registered in the past 24 hours raising the cumulative number of cases to 31,015.
Despite the country recording a reduced number of cases in the past few days, the Health Ministry warned the infection curve has not flattened.
“We are not flattening the curve; our curve has not yet flattened. So let’s not drop the ball. Things may never get back to where they were before COVID-19. We must learn to live with this situation because even when Covid-19 will be over, another pandemic is likely to strike,” said Mwangangi.
Nairobi remains the country’s Covid-19 hotspot having reported 18,356 cases as of Wednesday followed by Kiambu (2,311), Mombasa (2,244), Kajiado (1,664), Machakos (1,104), Busia (938), and Nakuru (699).
