Pauline Njoroge’s Past Facebook Post Comes Back to Haunt Her as Appointment to Tourism Authority is Revoked

Tourism CS Najib Balala has revoked the appointment of Pauline Njoki Njoroge to the Tourism Regulatory Authority.

This comes a day after her appointment as a board member of the authority caused a stir online over her past Facebook post questioning the economic viability of Nairobi National Park.

Balala in a statement on Saturday said he was not aware of Njoki’s past negative comment about the park while appointing her to the position on Friday.

“I am revoking Pauline Njoroge’s appointment as a board member of the Tourism Regulatory Authority because we have just seen what she had tweeted in the past that Nairobi National Park was useless. We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking,” noted Balala.

Balala, who has since replaced Njoki with KTN’s Najma Ismail, thanked Kenyans on social media for highlighting the matter.

Njoki’s Facebook post dated October 2019 read: “By the way, how much revenue does the Nairobi National Park bring to this country. Isn’t there much more that can be done with it that can add more value? The only selling point of that park is that ‘It’s the only national park in a capital city in the world’ beyond that glamorous title, that else does it offer?”

“The orphanage and the nature walk make economic sense…But the park? It does not make sense that in a congested city like Nairobi we can afford to have acres and acres of land in the name of a park when the is literally bursting at the seams with people…We even have to hold discussions on rerouting the SGR so as to have a park that is economically redundant!”

Njoki works at NEPAD as a communication officer and is one of the fierce defenders of President Uhuru’s administration on social media.

  1. Ha ha, my old Facebook…
Ha ha, my old Facebook friend, when one door closes, others will open.

  2. @balala – many reasonable…
@balala – many reasonable Kenyans have asked the same “ economic viability” question of the Nairobi National Park! I wonder where the money gathered from this park goes – corruption!

You could have kept Ms Njoroge to see what ideas she may have in making the park more economically viable! It is good to have inquisitive and progressive Kenyans in those board rooms/ meeting.

I assume you as the tourism CS do not know the benefit of the Nairobi Nation Park except a monologue of saying we have a lot white people and Chinese coming to Kenya to see costly animals!

I personally second the motion regarding Ms Njoroge’s concerns about the economic benefits of the Nairobi National Park!

Well, at least you can’t fire me because I’m a self made citizen and I would not take such a position because of my busy schedule of business events!

  3. So Balala does not want a…
So Balala does not want a Kenyan who is asking him what he does with the revenues from Nairobi National Park?

Balala says, “we don’t want such people here!” CS Balala, the problem here is the fact that you are quite impervious to reasons! You are very old school – and the old colonial mentality is your daily portion!

You don’t want anyone to challenge you so you can comfortably keep on “eating” with all the dummies around you!

Nairobi National park belongs to Kenyans, and they have every right to question the management of the parks regarding the purpose of such a park if it is just consuming the tax payers money!

And to those on line Kenyans you are thanking for question Njoki’s intent in asking an obvious question, shame on them!

  4. CS Balala – you have…
CS Balala – you have outlived your usefulness to the Republic of Kenya. Nothing much have changed ( except exotic elephants) dying during your time as the CS! Precisely that is the reason the lady you are firing is directly asking you about the usefulness of Nairobi National Park! All we see is a bunch of hungry lions roaming aimlessly every where without any plan! Where is the damn money from these parks!? You can fire me if you wish ? for asking you an obvious question! Show us the money!!!

  5. Internet does not forget. I…
Internet does not forget. I know several people that have missed out on great opportunities because their SM platforms betray them.

  6. Now that you @Balala have…
Now that you @Balala have fired an inquisitive Kenyan for asking you a question you should have answered in 2013, can you now tell Kenyans the economic viability of Nairobi National Park and other parks across the country!? Are the for corruption purposes with a few cats getting fat while Kenyans count the damn loses every day?? Here Njoro back so she can revolutionize Nairobi National park and others! We need visible change Balala! Otherwise it is time for you to go and let someone else do the tourism job!

  7. Freedom of speech and…
Freedom of speech and expression in matters pertaining to the use of Kenya’s scarce resources in a must! So to get a job in Kenya today someone has to kiss a CS ass or what the hell!?? Very shameful!!

  8. Njoki asked a valid question…
Njoki asked a valid question indeed! Is Balala living in this world not to understand what njoki was asking? Nonsense!! I’m asking the same question myself! Africa and idiotic Africans with little powers! Give us a damn break!!

  9. Hei @balala, there is a…
Hei @balala, there is a black hole that takes all the money earned from Nairobi National Park! Which leads to the question of economic viability and sustainability! Is the black hole in your own pockets?? Seriously you need to answer this demanding question to every concerned Kenyan. Your tourism board ought to tell Kenyans where the money goes!!!! You can fire one but you can’t fire all Kenyans!!

  10. What was the question Njoki…
What was the question Njoki was asking!? Economic viability of the park? And @balala fired her for not cooperating in corruption crimes! Yes indeed! Balala should be fired for not being truthful to Kenyans!!! It is about time; Mr. President to take action on Balala! You don’t fire someone for asking a good question!!! Never!!

  11. This is why Uhuru said that…
This is why Uhuru said that Kenyans have had it and are about to get physical with these stupid political appointees! Was Balala not accused of taking shs 80,000.00 for a bribe not too long ago? So now he says a lady who asks questions is not what he wants; right?? Hii ni seriku ya wajinga!! Go figure Kenyans!!

  12. This interesting considering…
This interesting considering the fact that they appoint poachers and landgrabbers in these wildlife conservatism organizations boards.

  13. Change only comes when…
Change only comes when inquisitive minds speak out! Njoki’s economic viability question of the park spoke volumes is very significant.

That same question can be used to put all the national parks in Kenya in a more economically viable position! You don’t run a National park, corporation or small business without evaluating its economic significance to make sure that business can support itself!

Case in point – look at Kenya Airways where the tax payers money have been wasted several times trying to keep it running! A foreigner ran KA to its death bed, and then he took off with pockets full of our money!

The same situation applies to the national parks in Kenya! It is good to make sure the parks are self sustaining and fraud and waste is controlled.

But when a concerned citizen writes about the waste, fraud and abuse in Nairobi National Park, a hired goofy looking white CS in the name of Balala hired from Saudi Arabia fires that possible employee!

Who should have a job at the tourism ministry? A Kenyan Njoki or a foreigner the CS Balala? I rest my case hoping Uhuru will re-instate Njoki so we can fix the theft at the ministry of tourism!

  14. No wonder my fred Trump…
No wonder my fred Trump called this guys S*******holes Africans leaders. That asked a good question.Personaly if I was the boss n my staff ask me such a challenge question I will have coffee with them at my office n listen to them.Mayb they can advice me lots.

  15. Usually, people are…
Usually, people are appointed to these boards because they have demonstrated special interests/skills that the pointing authority would like to see in the organization. Why was she appointed in the first place?

  16. In this Kenya ,they love…
In this Kenya ,they love people who don’t ask fought questions or have a different perspective. They love quiet sycophants who earn their tax payer funded paychecks without actually having to do any actual work.Sad but true these are the times were are living in.Our forefathers and the men and women who built this nation sacrificially and prudently must be turning in their graves. There is no wisdom in squandering an inheritance
