Cuba has sent 20 more specialized doctors to Kenya to help in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The team of medics drawn from the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade established by Fidel Castro in 2005 to handle emergencies and serious epidemics is expected to land in Nairobi on Friday, Daily Nation reports.
“The team is on its way to Kenya. This humanitarian mission which, save for the transport and accommodation costs, is normally at no cost to the recipient country, is in the spirit of the existing strong bilateral relations between the two countries,” Kenyan Ambassador to Cuba Antony Muchiri told Daily Nation.
The arrival of the 20 foreign medical specialists comes weeks after Kenya renewed the contract of 100 doctors imported from Cuba two years ago.
The Cuban medical team was sent to work in Kenya under an agreement between the two countries that also saw 50 Kenyan medics travel to the Caribbean nation to receive specialized training.
Last month, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe extended their contract for a further six months following the expiry of their initial two-year contract.
“We have renewed the agreement for six months, but we are planning to do it for more years. We are waiting for the Covid-19 pandemic cases to be reduced so we can travel to Cuba to have a conversation with the government,” CS Kagwe was quoted by a local daily.
The number of Covid-19 infections in the country continues to grow day by day and the new Cuban medical team is expected to help in the efforts to flatten the curve.

I think those that peddle the hatred agenda are typically foolish or western empowered clowns. Cuban doctors are a positive collaboration that builds the growing health system. Cubans mastered how to effectively organize preventative health protocols/systems unmatched by any other country. Remember they don’t have a lot of resources. Positive collaboration are a good thing. The govt just maximizes its opportunities. No hatred~~~wacha porojo!
