Covid-19 Cases in Kenya Surpass 8,000 as Death Toll Hits 164

The tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kenya surpassed the 8,000-mark on Monday after 181 people tested positive for the virus.

This pushed the total number of infections in the country to 8,067, according to data by the Ministry of Health. 

The 181 new positive cases comprise 123 males and 58 females with the youngest being a four-month-old child while the oldest is aged 79. All the patients except two are Kenyan nationals.

Nairobi registered the highest number of infections at 134, followed by Kiambu (19), Mombasa (9), Kajiado (6), Machakos (6), Lamu (3), Muranga (2), Uasin Gishu (1) and Kirinyanga (1).

On a positive note, 127 patients were released from various treatment centers across the country, bringing to 2,414 the total number of recoveries.

Sadly, the country lost four more Covid-19 patients, raising the death toll to 164. A total of 191,394 samples have been tested for coronavirus to date.
