Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director Benard Njiraini has been arrested in connection with alleged graft at the State agency.
Njiraini was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday and was driven to the Integrity Centre to record a statement.
He is accused of frustrating EACC officers investigating corruption claims at KEBS by failing to provide crucial documents, hence delaying the completion of the probe.
“Today, EACC arrested Mr. Benard Njiraini as a penal consequence of failing to comply with a Notice issued to him pursuant to Section 27 and Section 66 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No. 3 of 2003. This is with a view of obtaining the said documents and preferring charges against him for his contravention,” EACC said in a statement.
The anti-graft body is conducting an investigation into alleged irregularities and bribery in the tendering process for the provision of pre-export conformity of goods, used motor vehicles, mobile equipment, and spare parts by KEBS.
