Kenya has recorded more than 300 Covid-19 cases in a single day for the first time since the disease broke out in the country in March.
The Health Ministry on Wednesday announced that 307 people, including 289 Kenyans and 18 foreign nationals, tested positive for the contagious illness.
The new cases, which were detected from 3,591 samples, examined in the past 24 hours, pushed the total number of infections in Kenya to 6,673.
The ministry indicated that the country is likely to experience a surge in the number of cases as the peak approaches and urged Kenyans to continue observing containment measures in order to flatten the infection curve.
215 of the new patients are male and 92 are female, with the youngest one being one-year-old and 81 years for the oldest.
In terms of distribution, Nairobi county had the highest cases with 154, Mombasa (38), Machakos (33), Kiambu (20), Narok (20), Kajiado (17), Busia (10), Kericho (4), Makueni (5), Nakuru (5), while Kilifi, Kisumu, Kitui and Uasin Gishu registered one case each.
At the same time, the tally of recoveries rose to 2,089 after 50 patients were discharged from various treatment centers across the country while the death toll increased by one to 149.
