Nyali MP Mohamed Ali Drafts Motion to Impeach Cabinet Secretary James Macharia

Nyali MP Mohamed Ali is set to table a motion for the impeachment of Transport and Infrastructure CS James Macharia.

Ali accuses CS Macharia of gross misconduct and violation of the constitution by failing to undertake public participation in the decision to have all cargo received at the port of Mombasa ferried via SGR.

In addition, Ali claims CS Macharia committed perjury by lying under oath while giving evidence in parliament through the provision of wrong information.

He also says Macharia violated Article 73 of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity by overseeing stalled projects worth Sh100 billion.

“He failed to deliver on key infrastructure, housing, urban development and public works such as bridges, highways, seaports, and airports despite the projects being heavily touted as vital to the development of the country,” the motion reads.

Ali argues that Macharia’s decision to have all cargo transported via railway has seen many Mombasa residents lose their jobs and businesses.

“It is in his capacity as a public officer that I am asking this house to judge his actions and cease the sanction of impunity in his remaining term in office. I do so for the people of Mombasa, who are doomed to serious economic loss because of his actions in forcing through patently illegal actions to prop up the profitability of the SGR.”

“I do this for the people of Kenya, who are saddled projects that have not been completed under his watch but have been and have to be paid for. I do this to send a message to cartels that have settled comfortably into patterns of theft from the public purse under the Cabinet secretary’s watch,” Ali states.

I know the SGR has its politics, but Moha, the SGR has made the NBI-MSA rd safer, Cargo loss/theft has gone down, not to mention transit time. That is what happens when upgrading/civilization/development happens. That’s how computers put many out of work….. if only the SGR would be run differently.
