Former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been discharged from the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi after recovering from Covid-19.
Bishop Wanjiru was released from the facility on Saturday, 10 days after she tested positive for the virus. She is among 26 Covid-19 patients who were discharged on Saturday after fully recovering.
Addressing reporters outside Aga Khan, Wanjiru disclosed that she went to the hospital over food poisoning only to test positive for Covid-19.
“I didn’t have any cough, flu, or running nose. I went to the hospital after a bout of food poisoning. I didn’t know I had the virus,” she said.
Wanjiru further confirmed that two of her grandkids and six servants also contracted the infection and are in isolation.
“I owe my healing to God. I am over 50 years and never been hospitalized before. My two grandchildren and six staff members were also positive for coronavirus,” she noted.
“Quick response is key to saving someone’s life. Kenyans, shun the belief that currently, hospitals in Kenya are only treating COVID-19 patients. That is not true. Throughout my time here, I saw many other patients, who did not have COVID-19 being treated and taken good care of.”
Contrary to earlier reports, the politician clarified that she did not hold any prayer meeting at her home in Runda prior to being diagnosed with the illness.
As of Saturday evening, there were 1,745 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kenya out of which 438 have recovered while 63 have lost their lives.
