11 more people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease in Kenya increasing the number of infections to 281, the Health Ministry announced on Monday.
In a press briefing, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the 11 new patients include six males and five females, all aged between 11 and 80 years.
He added that seven of the new cases were registered in Mombasa County—three from Bondeni estate, one from Miritini and three from other parts of Mombasa town. The remaining four cases were recorded in Ruaka, Kiambu County.
Five out of the cases involve persons quarantined in different government facilities while six were picked by the Health Ministry’s surveillance team. None of the 11 infected persons have a recent travel history.
CS Kagwe indicated that three of the seven cases from Mombasa are people who came into contact with a herbalist who died of the virus last week.
Two additional patients, including a doctor, have recovered from the virus, raising the tally of recoveries in the country to 69 while the number of deaths remains 14.
Since the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed in Kenya, 13,872 samples have been tested.
