Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Cross the 200 Mark After 11 More Kenyans Test Positive

Kenya has confirmed 11 additional cases of coronavirus increasing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 208.

Speaking during a media briefing at Afya House on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said all the 11 new patients are Kenyan nationals aged between one and 42 years.

The 11 cases were detected from 674 samples tested in the past 24 hours. Four of the 11 cases recently traveled from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and were in quarantine in different facilities while seven were picked by the Health Ministry surveillance team.

Two of the cases were registered in Nairobi County, four in Mandera, three in Mombasa while Nakuru and Machakos recorded one case each.

CS Kagwe also disclosed that 15 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the illness. This puts the total number of recoveries in the country at 40.

At the same time, Kagwe announced the death of one more patient in Nairobi, raising the total number of coronavirus deaths to 9.

“Moving forward, there will be challenges. Our cultural practices of how we dispose of the bodies of our loved ones may not be practical in an extreme situation. Be mentally prepared that Covid-19 victims shall be disposed of in a manner that protects the living from infection,” Kagwe warned Kenyan.
