Embattled Kenya Ports Authority MD Daniel Manduku Resigns

Embattled Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Daniel Manduku has resigned.

Manduku announced his resignation in a letter dated March 26th and addressed to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia. He said he made the decision after what he termed as “deep introspection and lengthy consultations.”

Manduku, who was arrested last week over an alleged graft scandal, said his resignation takes effect on June 1st, 2020 but he will immediately proceed on terminal leave.

“The duty of the captain of this ship has been to ensure that she remains steady and that she stays her course. I shall be eternally grateful for the support of all the outstanding individuals who have contributed to what we have achieved over the last few years and to you in particular for your leadership and vision,” the letter states.

“I do hereby tender my resignation, which I hope you will accept, effective June 1, 2020. I am immediately proceeding on terminal leave until then.”

Manduku is accused of illegally recommending the gazettement of the Nairobi Inland Cargo Terminal as a KPA facility. He is also under investigation over an alleged Sh2.7 billion irregular tender at the authority but he has maintained he is innocent.
