President Kenyatta appeared to respond to US-based Kenyan lawyer Prof. Makau Mutua who recently said that the coronavirus pandemic will only be addressed through science and not prayers.
Prof. Mutua said this after Kenyatta declared Saturday, March 21st a National Day of Prayer over the pandemic.
“Prayers won’t help Kenya combat the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s stop this superstition and return to science. This primordialism and naïveté could wipe us off the face of the map,” Mutua wrote Twitter.
Speaking at State House on Saturday when he led the country in praying against illness, Uhuru said even science needs God.
“I know there are those who are saying that we should depend on science not prayers but I want to assure you that even science needs God. We need to always remember that a nation prospers when a nation believes and trusts in its maker,” said Uhuru.
He added: “Today is our day as Kenyans, a day we have chosen to come together to give thanks for all that God has done for us, seek His forgiveness for anything we may have done wrong individually and collectively, to ask for His favor in the face of the challenges that we have.”
Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretaries, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and several other political and religious leaders attended the prayer function.
Kenya has so far confirmed seven cases of Covid-19, which has spread to over 100 countries including 38 in Africa.

In fact Prayer is significant in all Human endeavours, what is so worrying for our case is the Hypocrisy of our Political leaders, pretending to be Prayerful while they continue with their routine evils, corruption, assassinations etc, will the Lord we Pray to accept our cries and Prayers?
