Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at a section of MPs who have asked him to resign and focus on his 2022 presidential ambitions.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, the over 70 MPs allied to President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga accused DP Ruto of what they termed as “reprehensible conduct.”
“William Ruto must shape up or ship out,” the MPs said in a joint statement. “The DP is guilty of public misconduct and grave malpractices and has not lived up to the oath of office…he has failed to promote public confidence in the integrity of the high office.”
The leaders further accused Ruto of waging a war against State institutions and constitutional bodies as well as government officials appointed by President Uhuru.
Responding to the MPs through Twitter on Wednesday night, DP Ruto said no one has the right to lecture him on supporting President Kenyatta.
He further noted that has campaigned and voted for Uhuru in all the four elections he vied for president while a majority of those purporting to lecture him have never voted for the president. “99% of MPs pretending to give me lectures on supporting UKenyatta have NEVER voted for him. I have CAMPAIGNED, VOTED & SUPPORTED him in the 4 elections he ran for president,” DP Ruto wrote.
He added: “The NOT new nonsensical insults/sterile accusations spewed were against UHURUTO/Jubilee in the past. IGNORE [sic].”

Uhuru/Raila detente`excluding Ruto and the resultant BBI might well be Uhuru’s biggest miscalculation. It may cost him not only his back yard support base, alienate him from his own people and also mess up his efforts at creating a legacy. Ruto is no angel but he could well be the default beneficiary.
