A Kenyan student who was quarantined at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after arriving in the country from China has tested negative for coronavirus.
The student was taken to KNH after he exhibited coronavirus-like symptoms after landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday morning and has been in isolation since then.
He IS reported to have traveled from Wuhan, where the virus emerged, on January 20th, to Zhangjiajie city. He then left for Nairobi via Guangzhou and Bangkok on January 27th and arrived at JKIA on Tuesday morning at 0615 hours.
On Friday, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the student tested negative for the deadly virus after results were sent to South Africa for validation.
“I can confirm that results on the suspected coronavirus case sent to South Africa for validation are negative,” outgoing Health CS Sicily Kariuki said,
The unnamed student, in his early 20s, had traveled via Kenya Airways flight KQ886.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday declared coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern. The WHO reached the resolution at its fourth Emergency Committee meeting.
The death toll from Coronavirus climbed to 213 after more than 40 victims – all of them in Hubei, the province at the center of the outbreak– died on Thursday.
