Three suspected criminals were on Sunday morning gunned down during a shootout with detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi.
With the help of regular police officers, DCI detectives intercepted the suspects in Nairobi’s Kamukunji estate following a tip-off from members of the public. DCI said the suspects were challenged to surrender but they instead opened fire, forcing the officers to fire back.
“A combined team of @DCI_Kenya and @PoliceKE officers based at Kamukunji, acting on a tip-off from the public on notorious criminals on a mission to commit crime managed to intercept them along Ladhies road where they were challenged to surrender but instead shot at our officers,” DCI said in a statement on Twitter.
Two pistols, a penknife and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene after the operation. Police launched a manhunt for one other suspect who reportedly escaped towards Muthurwa Estate.
