Uhuru Will Remain in Power Beyond 2022, David Murathe Says

Former Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe has insisted that President Kenyatta will not retire from politics after the expiry of his 10-year term in 2022.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, Murathe argued that although the constitution does not allow Kenyatta to seek a third term, it does not prevent him from taking up another position in the government. He opined that Kenyatta could become Kenya’s Prime Minister, one of the leadership positions proposed in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

“There is going to be new formation… they can agree for the former Prime Minister [Raila] to run for the presidency and if Uhuru comes in with the majority seats as per the BBI, forms government,” Murathe said.

“If Uhuru is the party leader he will form that government, nothing stops him,” he added.

Murathe, a close ally of Uhuru, explained that no one will challenge the president on his position as Jubilee Party’s leader ahead of the next general elections.

“They better start getting used to the idea… if anyone wants to challenge Uhuru as party leader let them come out,” he added.

At the same time, he echoed Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju’s remarks that the party will block leaders accused of corruption from vying.

“Jubilee Party has a code of ethics and any persons associated and implicated in any form of corruption will not be cleared to vie for any position in the forthcoming elections,” Murathe said.

  1. Uhuru was nothing to Kenya…
Uhuru was nothing to Kenya and Kenyans before he was handpicked by dictator Moi. He could not maintain the smooth running of the country and the economic growth that Kibaki set in motion. And now he is supposed to be indispensable? Common Mr. Murathe, it’s a democracy, let Kenyans decide. In the BBI, the prime minister you’re talking about serves at the pleasure of the president which makes him a puppet. During the 2007/08 election violence the we had an Accord which was hurriedly put together when Kofi Annan, the then UN Secretary General and Condleeza Rice, the then US Secretary of State; jetted in the country. Before Kenyans knew what was going on, we had a prime minister – Raila, and mkate nusu without holding any referendum, why do we need one now? BBI is the new lie meant to confuse Kenyans, disorganize and confuse them with ethnic emotions and passions leading to chaotic and violence street parades. The unnecessary referendum will result into deaths and looting. We all know better than going down the Raila route again!

  2. D. Murathe is an alcoholic…
    D. Murathe is an alcoholic Kyuk who thinks and acts like Kenya belongs to Kenyatta Family. There are 47M Kenyans entitled to decide the future fate of their country. Someone fill his glass with more alcohol until he passes out.
BBI is a sham to let Kyuks stay in power, Kenyans should trash it.

  3. When Moi was in charge, the…
When Moi was in charge, the city of Nairobi looked like cattle wrestling den. The roads were disappearing by the seconds, the economy was near dead, corruption drained everything in the coffers. The same crap will happen if Ruto were to lead Kenya. Every Kenya need to survive and not have the only guy selling 3,000,000 a day while the national Treasury get drain. You cant expect for people not worry about a ruto presidency. We don’t want to be resuscitating Kenya from the death bed every 5 years while the thieves go in hiatus.

    • Here we go again! You are…
Here we go again! You are intriguingly possessed with Ruto. Can we please talk about Murathe and your uncle in this space?
Let’s talk about how 30 billion is siphoned out of tax payers to support a nonstarter bbi. Let’s talk about how a few individuals can draft changes to a constitution yet fooling people that the same can be taken for referendum. Anything referendum has to originate from the people themselves not the other way round.

      • @assista – It is best…
@assista – It is best Kenyans talk about folks like you who are in death-like denial! I have taken you to the a River with flowing water! All you need to do is take a drink of enlightenment at your pleasured time so you can see what is happening around you.

Some folks are just blind while still possessing retinas in the two socket holes in the face. And I can not blame you for this myopic sickness!

But remember that Many are severely enraged with the thieves of our national coffers putting innocent citizens at a great menace.

        • Maina, the irrelevancy at…
Maina, the irrelevancy at which you ignore the talking points and instead spew selective attacks based on hate and tribal alignments falls in what you call “myopic sickness “.
In every comment you make, you are up hatefully ranting either Moi, Ruto, Sudi, Murkomen, Kimwarer dam and any other persons that are from the same community.
If you were indeed a true corruption crusader, one would expect you to fight from all fronts in spite one community.
No sane person would want to drink from your hateful tribal Molotov river!

  4. I will say it again…if…
I will say it again…if Uhuru does this he will be taking Kenya backwards. We need to entrench constitutional order as the sole pillar for national progress instead of falling back on an individual’s kindness. Respect the supreme law of the land!
