Rosemary Odinga Regains Full Eyesight After Two-Year Battle

Rosemary Odinga says she has fully regained her sight after battling partial blindness for the past two years.

Rosemary, who is the daughter of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, broke the good news when she attended a Christmas service at St. Peter’s ACK Church in Bondo, Siaya County on Wednesday. She moved the congregation when she narrated her difficult fight with the condition.

“I felt alone and had to quickly learn to use sounds and movements of people to tell who was around me. Those were the most trying moments of my life,” she said, adding that it was especially painful for her as a mother not to see her children.

She added: “People would see me and think I was able to see because my eyes were ‘wide open’. I am grateful for your prayers and support during those difficult times.”

Rosemary, a 42-year-old lawyer, and entrepreneur had accompanied her father to the Christmas service. On his part, Raila explained how the family moved from one hospital to another-both locally and abroad-in search of a remedy.

“We got to a point where we nearly gave up as a family after unsuccessfully visiting many hospitals including in Germany, China, and South Africa before she was finally healed in India,” said Raila, adding that it took the intervention of a herbal doctor to have her daughter regain her eyesight.

“Doctors in South Africa said she will never regain her sight. However, a friend introduced us to a doctor in India who used herbal medicine to help her recover.” 

“When she went back after two months for a check-up, the doctors were impressed by how fast she was recovering,” he said.

Rosemary became partially blind after she was diagnosed with two aneurysms and a brain tumor, which was later removed in China after initially seeking treatment in South Africa.
