The government has announced that the construction of the Mau Mau Road that will traverse four Central Kenya counties will commence in January next year.
The 150-kilometer road will start at Gataka in Githunguri, Kiambu County, and terminate at Njengu, Nyeri County where it will join the Nyeri-Nyahururu Highway.
It will pass through 69 shopping centers in Nyeri, Muranga, and Kiambu, with a branch through the Aberdare Forest to Njabini in Kinangop, Nyandarua County. The road traces the routes that were used for transport and logistics by Mau Mau freedom fighters.
The Sh30 billion project will be done in four phases with a two-year completion period, according to Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia. Macharia, who spoke on Friday during an inspection of the roads ahead of construction, said the project will be handled by four contractors.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged that before his term ends, Mau Mau Road will be done in honor of freedom fighters who made huge sacrifices for the liberation of this country,” said Macharia.
Transport Ministry officials said the project will see more than 80 feeder roads (540 kilometers) leading to Mau Mau Road upgraded to bitumen standard.
What about Olkalou?
What about Olkalou?
What about it? Me, myself,…
What about it? Me, myself, and I is what is killing development in Kenya! Talk to governor Kimemia, your MP and your local leadership! Roads are the responsibility of the devolved county. What did they do with the Treasury allocations given to them? It is about accountability and responsibility go hand in hand!
Here are some contacts for…
Here are some contacts for you to call and ask your governor and MP the questions you are asking Uhuru about roads in Alkalou:
MP David Njuguna Kiaroho – Tel: 0727508812; Enail: info@parliament.go.ke
Governor Francis Kinemia – Tel: 07927735720/07922735736; Email: info@nyandarua.go.ke; Twitter: @GovFKimemia
They can answer your queries on Engineer- Mutarakwa impassable mud road that has recently been washed away by the recent rains.
Ask them why the daily farmers are pouring milk on the ground due to poor milk prices. What is the long term plan to solve the farmers issues?
You can also ask them if all the schools in the county have desks for the pupils to sit on.
You can also ask MP Kiaroho why he is so marred up in politicking for the TangaTanga nuisance and ask him the reason why he is aligning himself with DP Ruto who is deeply rooted in corruption deals – mucera na mukundu, akundukaga otauguo!
Ask your MP what he has used the CDF money for shilling per shilling. You can ask Gova Kimemia where the Treasury allocations are our to use. Good luck!!
I commend President Uhuru…
I commend President Uhuru Kenyatta for initiating this project. It’s long overdue. While the road connects four counties it only benefits communities in three counties-Kiambu, Muranga and Nyeri. Sixty five out of sixty six townships connected by the road are all in those three counties. Njabini, the only town in Nyandarua County mentioned, lies at the edge of Aberdare forest and there are no townships between it and Muranga. Once again the marginalized Nyandarua County has been used to advance the interest of the three Counties. People of Nyandarua County made the greatest sacrifice in fighting for Kenya’s independence and it’s so sad the County is only second to Turkana County in terms of infrastructure and poverty threshold
@koni – yes Nyandarua county…
@koni – yes Nyandarua county could benefit more in terms of economic development if governor Kimemia, MP Kwenya, MP Kiaroho, and all the others in the leadership capacity are using the resources allocated to them appropriately. The level of corruption in this county will cause you vomit; literally! It is a county ran by greedy leaders whose belief is ‘every man for himself and God to be at the mercy of the electorates!’
The electorates have a deep problem of expecting nyama Choma handouts. A vote here costs a handful pieces of nyama Choma coupled with empty promises!
The other problem here is the blatant theft of resources and the endless politicking! Most of the MPs in Nyandarua County are strictly aligned to DP Ruto, the most corrupt JP member, as they wishfully think that should he become the next accidental president, they will be protected by the high priest of corruption from being put in jail for their own theft of people’s CDF money.
56 years after Independence, Nyandarua county, a hub of agricultural wealth, should have been the envy of Kenya as it feeds nearly the entire population in Nairobi. Recently the farmers had to spill milk because of poor milk prices – that was the same time Kimemia was having merry marrying a Nyeri chic!
Nyandarua county needs a true revival with a true leader – a selfless man in the likes of JM Kariuki, or a Michuki, a true man of the people whose people’s well-being is deeply rooted in his heart. I say a good man of the people because all the women leaders here glorify only one man, Ruto, to a point they have forgotten those who elected them.
In addition, The county needs a Mundu Mugo to clearly foresee the economic direction the people want to go to unshackle the county from poverty!
And, and more importantly a man of clear conscience ( maybe a spiritual leader) to guide the conscience of the ordinary people to do what it takes to move forward. The current leadership is blind – no blind person can dig others out of the current mud!
@Maina, I see Ndaragwa MP…
@Maina, I see Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni taking mucene every morning to Kameme & Inooro TV as if he is hired by them. It is a shame to see him talking on TV shows every morning while his constituency is in pathetic condition.
@kenya – do you really…
@kenya – do you really expect anything good to come from Kioni? He is dummer than a frog and all he cares about is his big belly! These kinds of folks are exactly what is wrong with Nyandarua county!?
And the poorelectorates get hogwashed with my mp was on jameni FM kameme talking Dudu that has no intrinsic value to the constitutes! They however continue to elect the good for nothing marimba because they don’t know any better! Nyandarua is just an Animal Farm without a wise bull to lead the heifers!
I feel the same @Dr. Ol…
I feel the same @Dr. Ol’Kalou is one forgotten place… and yes, @Maina, I blame ourselves (voters) for voting in dead-beat representatives over and over. Be sure I’ll contact that Kiaraho Architect who is letting his own be removed from the map.
@justme – believe you me…
@justme – believe you me that I have called Kiaroho and others, left messages desiring to address people’s issues of farmers produce prices, food processing industries, education, and impassable roads, etc only to be told by a lady with a sexy voice that Muheshimiwa is too busy to discuss “those” issues as she puts it in some Byandarua Country accent!
The voters here need to stop associating with thieves like the DP Ruto! They can’t expect a thief to do them any good as he will influence all the local politicians to steal from the people they are elected to serve!
It is those same leaders who have subjected the county into the poverty status! The voters must wake up, vote in a visioned leader who can steer them to success! In 2022, Nyandarua voters can clean the house and start anew! It is never too late… the power of the people is paramount… the voters need to take control of their lives! They can vote in someone whose vision is tangible and in line with their dreams.
The President should stop…
The President should stop blackmailing Kenyans… if it’s a matter of development, let it be felt by every Kenyan anywhere in Kenya… this matter of selectively developing his backyard and the backyard of those whom he shook hands with should stop!!
We demand for a mega project like this for the North… it’s our right and we want it… The President took this matter of governance as a matter of family affairs. Mr President do your dealings in a mature manner, sisi wakenya tumebebwa ujinga na watu ka nyinyi but if you are smart then you can notice that Revolution is on the calling!!
Walia, LAPPSET is a mega…
Walia, LAPPSET is a mega project which passes through your region to Ethiopia. Wacha wivu

Why do you want high profile…
Why do you want high profile roads up north? So that you can have the Alshabab Runatics get to Nairobi faster to blow up buildings and kill innocent people!? Change your murderous attitudes and counsel your opium mad brothers in Somalia and you will get everything good!
Governor Kimemia is one of…
Governor Kimemia is one of the most corrupt politician in Kenya. He stole billions during Kibaki regime but was able to corrupt EACC to clear him. Nyandarua County will not develop so as he is the Governor. Recently he charged the County government fifteen million shillings to build 1.5 mile marram road. He operate behind the scene to avoid the radar. He need to be impeached like Sonko and Waititu
@nyeri One major problem of…
@nyeri One major problem of the residents of Nyandarua county ni kalambalamba matako of those who have stolen from the national coffers – the so called waheshimiwa! Bure kabisa class of poorly educated University illiterate graduates who should know better but opt to steal from the masses to enrich their pockets.
Just look at all those elected lenders (men and women) in the county who are blindly following DP Ruto with their tails coiled between the hide legs. They follow folks without vision – and they all perish quickly!
Nyandarua county is the hub of thieves and the most corrupt politicians! Everybody (politicians) accused of stealing something ends there to hide – there was Kumunya and company, now is Kimemia building temporary roads that are getting washed away whenever it rains – classic example is Engineer – Mutarakwa road and many others. Tarmacking these roads would help transport farm produce and enlarge the wealth base there.
And now I turn my rath on the semi illiterate voters in the county whose mission is to consume njohi ya mutu and to eat the left over mashisha. Old and young then they begin singing dowry songs like desperate lot once they get highly inebriated. They get so depressed and then tyrn to commiting suicide – Nyandarua county has the highest suicide rate of young men. Most young men in the county have turn to unprotected sex and now suffering from HIV/AIDs.
The drankard lads just impregnate young girls and then run away from taking parental responsibilities – just kids producing kids they can’t afford to feed!
This county surely needs a revival and some eye opening seminars by someone who cares! The current crop of leaders want the county to stay in the current state of broken affairs so they can carry on their stealing without much resistance.
Something have to give for the county to be Put in order. It is the high time residents wake up and start asking serious questions.
