Deported Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has faulted the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, saying that it was malicious and politically instigated.
In a series of tweets, Miguna criticized the manner in which Governor Sonko was arrested, noting that authorities should have summoned him instead of creating unnecessary drama.
“Mike Sonko should have been summoned to Central Police Station or Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) head office in Nairobi then arrested, charged and taken to court in a regular manner,” argued Miguna.
Further to this, Miguna accused police of wasting taxpayers’ cash by sending a helicopter to airlift Sonko to Nairobi following his arrest. Sonko was nabbed by detectives from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on a roadblock in Voi, Taita Taveta County while allegedly escaping arrest.
“150 Kenyans were killed and thousands displaced by landslides in West Pokot but Despots Kenyatta, Matiang’i and Kibicho couldn’t even visit the victims. When Kenyans need protection the Police say they have no fuel. But they sent a chopper and 150 officers to arrest Sonko,” said Miguna.
Miguna added that officers violated the rights of Governor Sonko during the arrest ordered by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji over corruption allegations. Sonko is accused of misappropriating public funds amounting to Sh357.
“Everyone has the right to resist abuse, inhumane and degrading treatment. That includes a convicted criminal, thief and low life like Mike Sonko. If you believe in the rule of law then you must demand humane treatment for everyone including your real or imagined enemies,” wrote Miguna.
He added: “When Mike Sonko’s human rights were violated by numerous police officers who publicly punched, kicked and pushed him even though he was unarmed, the compromised media reported that “Sonko resisted arrest.” Police carry guns. They must conduct themselves lawfully all the time.”
… if I remember well,…
… if I remember well, Sonko had picked Miguna to be his Deputy. As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.
Does Miguna ever ‘flock’…
Does Miguna ever ‘flock’ together with anyone for more than a minute? With all the defending here, he seems to know that Sonko is “…a convicted criminal, thief and low life.”
Whose side are you on? never…
Whose side are you on? never mind I think i know you are on your side as usual. Canada will kick you out and you will be stateless watch out.
Sonko’s human rights MUST be…
Sonko’s human rights MUST be respected.
After all, a government made up of ICC criminals has no legitimacy.
I echo your words. EACC is…
I echo your words. EACC is acting maliciously on a lot of issues. EACC is an investigative body not a witch-hunt body. It should do its investigative work and then give the culprits due process as guaranteed by the Kenyan constitution. This egomaniac behavior by both EACC and Sonko does little to fight corruption
so in essence you guys are…
so in essence you guys are here to defend how these punk police behaved? Kenyan police is ill equipped, badly trained and mad men running around with little education or knowledge. Why have they not arrested the big cats of corruption? likes of ruto, waiguru and even Uhuru and his mom? don’t get used to corruption and incompetence that much that you defend it. SHAME!

Fake Miguna where you get 150 police officers no idea..clip shows less than 10 most normal traffic and local police..it was well calculated since in NBO..his followers cause unnecessary disturbances
Miguna – spare us the grief!…
Miguna – spare us the grief!! The key thing is Sonko is in jail right now for stealing people’s money. It does not matter how a thief is arrested; and especially in a situation where he is running away to avoid arrest; and also fighting the law enforcement officers! Every time a thief is arrested you folks start crying foul in all manner of ways – it’s politics, there was no dignity in the way he was arrested, its a witch hunt, etc. Since you call yourself a hustler of the poor – you should be thankful that magendo is being fought. Oh, the reason corruption is do rampant in Kenya today is because of @shake tri mechinic@ lawyers like you who only cares for big horn between their eyes and stomach full of poop! Shame on you Miguna!
I am tempted to sympathize…
I am tempted to sympathize with Sonko but I remember how impunity instructed him to instruct his rescue team to carry human waste to Jacaranda grounds in the name of protecting the government of impunity…where I come from, there is no worse cursing of yourself than of fecal matter.
WHY RUTO MUST SPLIT MT KENYA…
WHY RUTO MUST SPLIT MT KENYA
If you pick the voter register & results of the 2017 elections you realize 3 things:
1. Uhuru Kenyatta has influence in 11 counties (popularly known as Mt. Kenya region) which were his strong holds. They are Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Laikipia, Nakuru with the addition of Nairobi where half of the voters/residence are Kikuyus. The 11 counties have a combined registered voters of 6.5 Million.
2. William Ruto has influence in 6 counties in the Riftvalley which are his strong holds (Kericho, Bomet, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Baringo). The 6 counties have a combined registered voters of 1.9 Million.
3. When Uhuru and Ruto mobilised their respective votes they gave Jubilee a head-start of 8.4 Million votes in what has now come to be known as TYRANNY OF NUMBERS.

RUTO’s PROBLEM IN 2022
Numbers don’t lie and based on numbers Ruto’s contribution to the formation of Jubilee was 23% while Uhuru’s contribution was 77% in terms of votes.
This 23% contribution gave Ruto the deputy president & half of government.
Now Ruto wants to be President in 2022. He has 1.9M votes from his strongholds. But he needs the 5M Mt Kenya votes, to have any chance of getting to state house. Without Uhuru’s Mt. Kenya votes Ruto knows he’s a non-starter in the 2022 race. This is why he has made a lot more campaign trips to Mt. Kenya region than to any other region.
But Ruto has a problem. If he negotiates with Mt Kenya leaders on the same basis that he used in 2013 when negotiating with Uhuru, then Mt. Kenya can demand for 70% of his government; and he would have no option but to give them that 70%, and he must also give them the Deputy Presidency.
But Ruto does not want to do that.
However he set the precedent for how such negotiations go benefitted from it so he also cannot just run away from this issue – at least not legitimately.
RUTO’s ANSWER TO HIS PROBLEM
Ruto understands that if he allows Mt Kenya to negotiate with him like he did with Uhuru in 2013 he will not fully control government post-2022. But he needs to be in control government so that he can do whatever he wants. So he does not want to ‘share’ government – not with Mt Kenya; not with anyone.
So Ruto has decided to be ‘clever’.
He has opted to side-step Mt Kenya leaders and go directly to the region’s voters, and entice them with ‘local MOUs’. He is promising each county in the Mt Kenya region whatever they want, if they will support him directly.
Ruto is therefore happy to offer ‘local’ promises to one part of the Mt Kenya region at a time, and even turn some sections of the region against others, if he has to.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MT KENYA MUSY BE SLIT INTO AS MANY PATTS AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THE REGION DOES NOT SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE; NOT TO RUTO, AND CERTAINLY NOT TO RUTO’s COMPETITORS IN 2022.
NB;
We are already seeing efforts to split the Kikuyus of Rift Valley from the Kikuyus of Central; the Kikuyus of Muranga from the Kikuyus of Kiambu and Nyeri; the Embu & Meru community, from their GEMA cousins the Kikuyus, etc.
HOW RUTO WILL BENEFIT IF MT KENYA REGION AGREES TO BE SPLIT
If Ruto succeeds in splitting the Mt Kenya region he will not have to offer anything national to the community as a bloc. He just needs to buy off a few of the region’s MCAs and MPs to represent him and ensure the region does what he wants; like Moi did. This means he can also keep lying to the region and there’s nothing they can do as they do not represent the region to him; they represent him to the region.
RUTO’s GAME-PLAN
To hedge his bets and raise his chances for success in this plan Ruto has bought-off some Mt Kenya MPs and MCAs from the region. He has then been facilitating them to initiate and cultivate an active grass-root-based rebellion against the current Mt Kenya leadership led by Uhuru Kenyatta, using the ‘hustler-vs-dynasty’ narrative.
In return he has promised these ‘Mt Kenya leaders’ financial support now, and that he will ensure their re-election in 2022. Those who do not make it he has assured of government appointments in his government post-2022.
In return these leaders must convince the Mt Kenya region that they do not need to be guided by any of their own national leaders in 2022 – including Uhuru Kenyatta – because Ruto will take care of the region.
Will Ruto succeed?
Dream on @SuraMbaya and…
Dream on @SuraMbaya and continue to make assumptions on top of assumptions. First of all who says Mt Kenya people will elect the leaders you are referring to? Those so called leaders were rigged in. Two, Mt Kenya is known for not re-electing their leaders so all those you see are headed to the garbage because thats where they belong.
Leta fujo uone. How fast has…
Leta fujo uone. How fast has Miguna forgotten! The arm of the law is long and strong if it wants to work. I thank God you never became Sonko’s deputy. I think you are smarting from that loss. You would be the acting governor soon. Are you telling us corrupt Sonko should be treated less than a criminal even after looting and running Nairobi County as his business? Miguna, you are as corrupt as they come.
Miguna Miguna is a Kenyan…
Miguna Miguna is a Kenyan citizen and should be allowed to return to his country of birth. If Kenya is guided by the law then there is no point of fearing his return because law will take its course. At the moment his constitutional rights is being violated
Miguna lost his Kenyan…
Miguna lost his Kenyan citizenship by virtue of acquiring a Canadian citizenship when Kenya had no dual citizen agreement with ANY COUNTRY. Anyone acquiring foreign citizenship prior to 2010 had to reapply afresh. Many of us have had to do that. What makes Miguna an exception to this rule?
What a U-turn? Surely time…
What a U-turn? Surely time is the wisest counselor of all.
This is humiliation of the…
This is humiliation of the highest order. I saw harassment and not resistance to arrest. Sonko has severally presented himself to the DCI if my memory serves me right. Noordin must stop being used
Sonko went to ICC…
Sonko went to ICC headquarters and in his vest everyone could see and read “Takataka nyinyi” not excluding the white people who hardly know any Swahili. As if that is not enough Sonko extended his goonship hand in support of jubilee by dumping faecal waste in a NASA political field. Now what do we say vinduvichenjaga sonko is somewhere sleeping next to a bucket of waste.
Wacha wapigane kabisa…
Wacha wapigane kabisa. Wavutane, wanyang’anyane, wanyonyane, waharibiane, hadi wasambaratishe Jubilee. Anything that will get those perps in Jubilee pitting against each other is welcome news. Halafu twataka sonko na hiyo mdomo yake imeraruka aropoke maneno kiasi. Kenya will only move forward if Jubilee is shaken. Till the people of central stop feeling and acting like they are more entitled than the rest of Kenyans. This Jubilee will go down WORST in history. Miguna Shame on you!
Sonko got exactly what he…
Sonko got exactly what he deserve. More power to the police. It is about time the law of the land is fully applied to these economic criminals. As for Miguna Miguna your time has come and gone. You are yesterday news. Irrelevant. Just go away and stay away.
