Drama at Funeral Parlor as Nigerian Man Tries to Take Body of Kenyan Woman

Drama ensued at Nairobi’s Umash Funeral Home on Saturday after a Nigerian man tried to take the remains of a Kenyan woman he claims to be his wife.

Charles Emedo attempted to get the body of 35-year-old Andear Mwangi without her family’s consent but was stopped. A dispute between the deceased’s family and the Nigerian national over her burial rights has seen the two parties move to court.

“There is nobody that is buried by somebody unknown when the parents and relatives are not aware,” Lydia Mwathathi, the deceased’s mother said.

Emedo leaves Umash

Andear succumbed to a liver condition while receiving medication at Nairobi South Hospital on September 22nd this year. Until her demise, she had been living with Emedo for nine years and they had three children from the union.

“They have stayed together for some time but they are neither married officially nor customary,” said Lydia.

Lydia claims that the deceased’s grandfather and uncle are working with Emedo to forcefully take the body from them. The deceased family presented the matter in court on October 23rd but Emedo failed to appear claiming that his lawyers advised him against it.

The two parties are scheduled to appear in court on December 5th for hearing with police saying the body will not be moved from the funeral parlor until the matter is heard and determined.

This kind of things would not happen if Kenya enacted a law banning Kenyan women from marrying Nigerian men. Nigerians immigrating to Kenya immigrate to commit crimes and I am sure this Charles Emondo is upto something. He is not a Kenyan patriot. Inferior Nigerian men are pinnacles of evil in Africa and are polluting the superior Kenyan genie. The official policy of the government of Nigeria to create employment through emptying its citizens to other countries. Nigerian leadership tries different method in achieving this. One of it is promotion of Pan Africanism which is meant to blind African leaders to think that Africans are all the same. Unsuspecting leadership such as Jubilee leadership in Kenya falls into trap and opens its borders to all Africans. There are now close to 500,000 Nigerians and 15,000,000 Somalians that have immigrated to Kenya thanks to Jubilee’s open border policy

Are you for real? Half a million Nigerians in Kenya? Where did you get those statistics from? That is more than some tribes. I hope you are joking when you say that. What do they do in Kenya?

      • I also think 500,000 is high…
        I also think 500,000 is high.Iwould say 5,000 legal,and 3,000 ilegal.

      • Unfortunately, the figure is…
Unfortunately, the figure is correct. If foreigners were counted as tribes in Kenya Nigerians would rank 38th tribe in Kenya thanks to Pan Africanism policy of Jubilee and Moi administrations. Nigerians dominate some sections of Nairobi especially along Mombasa road and parts of Eastland. In Malindi they are only outnumbered by Italians as the biggest foreign group having surpassed British about a year ago. Most Nigerians in Kenya operate underground mostly in drug, human and human body organs trafficking. Majority of trafficking cases takes place in and around Cost region. In Nairobi and other major towns the crime of choice for the Nigerians is 419 scams which they operate undetected in internet cafes targeting venerable elders and businesses in North and South America, Europe and Asia. The presence of hundred of thousands of Nigerian nationals in Kenya is a threat to the sovereignty of Kenya and every Kenyan worth salt ought to be concerned

        • So you are going to pretend…
So you are going to pretend you did not post that ridiculous “15 million Somalis in Kenya” figure you pulled out of some deep dark place? I hope you washed your hands when you were done.

    • Really? So nearly 1 out of 3…
Really? So nearly 1 out of 3 Kenya residents is a Somali? Does that mean Somalia has been depopulated and when did this occur. BTW an excrement ejection aperture is not a reliable source so answer carefully.

    • Dr Koni – Haki hii book…
Dr Koni – Haki hii book stuff does not mean you have the level of intelligence good enough to be consulted on matters family. What is wrong with a Kenyan woman marrying a Nigerian an visa vise? Love knows no boundaries and you can’t tell anyone who to marry. 24 million women again 23 million men leaves a huge decificit if men, unless you wish to tell you will marry all those women without a husband. You should be comfort in your skin as a Dr to see cultures mixing up from far and wide. The days of making decisions for the Kenyan women are pretty much behind us. Leave the sisters alone – damn it!!

  2. The term Nigerian Man in…
The term Nigerian Man in this news’ article title leaves a very bad taste. Why not just say Man tries ……
Fact they lived 9 years together, have 3 kids says a lot irrespective of whether they are officially married or not. He should have probably worked out a compromise with the lady’s family but dismissing him outright as a « Nigerian man » is sooo wrong

  3. This is a tough one folks…
This is a tough one folks. But could have been an issue if the two parties had gotten married- Just of the legalities sake.
For all practical purposes, living together for 9 years, and having kids in the”union”, to me its marriage.
Contrast this with a wife dies in a month after marriage, with no children. The law will give the body to the husband.Just because he has that piece of paper.Interestingly,or traditionally the kids belong to the man.But can you imagine if traditionally they belonged to the women? In this case the parents of the woman would take the kids…
I see now why in USA there used to be alaw against unmarried couples living together.Infact it was on books in some states till the 90s but was not enforced. Why, because it had become so common place.
Now in Kenya for those in the know, is there a law against co habiting?
Wow,Iam a proponent of co-habiting before one gets married.I may now have to rethink this position.
Also be mindful that not call cases that have these”same facts” would end up in court.I personally would let the Nigerian bury my daughter if I know for afact the they lived as a family, and he loved her dearly,as a husband would.
You would think that in Kenya today, there has to be some precedent in the courts…

  4. As much as I want to agree…
As much as I want to agree with those that have commented before me, lets not forget that we are of Kenyan. No matter how many years they have lived together and how many kids kids were sired, there is still the guy’s responsibility to notify her parents that he has/had taken their daughter under his wings as his own. Failure to this, their union is not culturally recognized. Im sure legal scholars may be of a different opinion.

    • @ Kaptain Tony, lets not put…
@ Kaptain Tony, lets not put the cart before the horse here. The time to tell the parents that you have taken their daughter is not after you start living with her,or nine year with children.
I could be wrong may be in your culture that’s what happens.

this fake doctor is here with fake statistics. baseless accusations.

KONMAN | definition in the Cambridge Germany Dictionary
Konman: plural Konmen. someone who uses dishonest or illegal methods to trick people into giving them money: English Dictionary: a man who cheats or tricks someone by gaining their trust and persuading them to believe something that is not true. Daniel Konmen, you were named Konmen for a reason and it’s no wonder you are here to defend your fellow Nigerians. The dictionaries describes people like you and your fellow Nigerians as a low-live persons that tend to be aggressive, bullies, criminals, drug dealers, freeloaders, hobos, gangsters, people associated with adhering to low culture, people who make constant use of profanities, prostitutes, pimps, scammers, sexual abusers, substance abusers, and thieves. I am a Kenyan patriot and so long as Nigerians and Somalians are in Kenya to exploit it I will not be silenced by anyone
