DP William Ruto Celebrates Kibra By-Election Results Despite Jubilee's Loss

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday celebrated the results of Thursday Kibra by-election despite Jubilee party candidate McDonald Mariga losing.

Mariga, who conceded defeat as vote counting was still underway, came in second after garnering 11,230 votes.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced Bernard Imran Okoth of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) the winner with 24,636 votes.

Ruto, who fronted Mariga as the ruling party’s candidate and vigorously campaigned for him, was impressed with their performance, saying “we have served notice.”

He said this was a massive improvement compared to what Jubilee managed in Kibra during the 2017 general elections.

“Pongezi Benard Okoth for Kibra. Congrats Mariga, Team Jubilee and supporters for daring the so-called ‘bedroom’, braving the chaos/violence, to double our vote from 12% (2017) to 26% now,” DP Ruto tweeted.

He added: “Our competitors came down 78% (2017) to 52%. They retained the seat we have served notice.”
