Murder suspect Sarah Wairimu Cohen on Wednesday requested the court to allow her to access her Nairobi’s Kitusuru home.
In an application through her lawyer Philip Murgor, Ms. Wairimu lamented that she is spending a lot of money buying new clothes and wants to be allowed to get her clothes from the house.
Wairimu, who is charged with the murder of her Dutch husband Tob Cohen, also said she wants to pick her car parked at the house so that she does not depend on lifts from relatives and friends.
“She’s had to buy clothes, shoes, and accessories, she needs to take these items from her bedroom …all be released to her as a matter of urgency,” Murgor said.
After denying the charges, Wairimu was released on a cash bail of Sh2million but was prohibited from accessing her matrimonial home without the court’s permission.
On Wednesday, the accused’s lawyer said her client has been forced to use taxis to move around.
“We are asking the court to grant the accused person permission to get her personal car which has never featured in this case, she has had to purchase clothes and ask for lifts from friends and relatives which is expensive,” the court heard.
The prosecution objected to Wairimu’s application, arguing that everything in the house is part of the exhibit and the car cannot be released to her.
“Unless the analysis is done we can’t release anything in that house as it is exhibit,” State Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki said.
Wairimu’s formal application will be heard before Justice Stella Mutuku on Tuesday next week.
