Former Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji was released from police custody following his arrest at his Nairobi home on Friday evening.
Ndung’u, who was arrested over a property dispute pitting him against his elder brother Gitahi Gethenji, was released on a free bond after 10 pm on Friday, according to Daily Nation.
He was ordered to report to Nairobi Area DCI offices at 6.30 am on Tuesday next week for further instructions.
Ndung’u is the controlling shareholder of Kihingo Village (Waridi Gardens) Limited and Kihingo Village (Waridi) Management One Limited, which owns the high-end estate in Kitisuru, Nairobi.
He has been embroiled in a bitter fight with his elder brother Gitahi over the management of the estate estimated to be worth Sh20 billion. Waridi Gardens Estate is home to 55 housing units, each valued at Sh400 million.
Ndung’u’s lawyer Willis Otieno said his client was questioned on the wrangles between him and owners of houses in the estate.
“Mr. Gethenji told police that house owners in the posh estate are supposed to follow rules and guidelines of the management of KVWGL and if dissatisfied they should sell their houses and leave instead of ganging up with his elder brother to mess the company,” Otieno told Daily Nation.
Ndung’u’s four employees who were arrested on Thursday for allegedly destroying property at Kihingo Village (Waridi Gardens) Limited (KVWGL) were also released on free bond.
