Five more county assemblies on Tuesday rejected Punguza Mizigo bill drafted by Thirdway Alliance party leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot.
This brings the total number of counties that have thrown out the bill to 21, meaning the bill will collapse if three more counties shoot it down.
The county assemblies that rejected the bill on Tuesday are Kisumu, Kericho, Meru, Tana River, and Trans Nzoia.
Kericho MCAs shot down the bill after it was tabled by Legal Affairs Committee chairperson Edith Chepkoech.
“It is clear that the MCAs were not supporting the bill from the onset despite their initially warming up to it. It is all behind us now” Ms. Chepkoech said during a press briefing.
Trans Nzoia MCAs threw out the bill on grounds that its proposals are too “unrealistic and retrogressive.”
Kisumu Ward Representatives said Ekuru’s bill seeks to erode gains made over the years especially on women representation in leadership.
In Meru County, 42 MCAs voted to reject the Punguza Mizigo bill against 17 who supported it. In shooting down the bill, Tana River MCAs said Dr. Aukot failed to seek the views of members of the public before drafting the proposal.
Nairobi, Mandera, Kiambu, Nyeri, Siaya, Homa Bay, Murang’a, Nakuru, Makueni, Kirinyaga, West Pokot, Nyamira and Kisii are among other counties that have rejected the bill. Uasin Gishu remains the only county that has approved the proposal.
Ofcourse they shot it down…
Ofcourse they shot it down they are all greedy bastards they clearly dont care about the welfare of Kenyans just themselves. Kenya needs a no nonsense leader who is focused and will trim down all these unnecessary government positions sijui deputy of the deputy…what a tragedy.
How in heaven did Kenyans…
How in heaven did Kenyans expect MCAs to vote themselves out of the groovy train? County Assemblies as constituted are the alleged “mzigo” … The camel will sooner pass through the eye of the needle than this bill will pass through these counties. Sad.
