In a rare show of unity and compassion, Kenyans on Wednesday night raised a whopping Sh2.5 million in one hour for 13-year-old cancer warrior Bianca Wambui.
This came after the girl, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, shared her story when she appeared on Citizen TV’s JKL show on Wednesday night alongside two other cancer patients.
Wambui told the show host Jeff Koinange that she had had a mastectomy but no chemotherapy due to lack of funds.
“Nakaa nyumbani tu…ningependa kupona na nirudi shuleni…Niliacha kwenda shule…siwezi kwenda nikiwa hivi; wengine wanasema niko na titi moja na hawawezi cheza na mimi,” a teary Bianca said.
“Naskia vibaya kwa sababu watoto shuleni wanasema nikiwakaribia nitawapea cancer…” she added.
Her family had only managed to raise Sh12,000 through Mpesa Paybill number 918675 with account name Bianca Wambui.
However, 20 minutes after the Paybill was shared on Citizen TV, the figure hit 503,500 and over Sh2 million in about one hour. Kenyans were touched by her story.
Mbuku Michael tweeted: “I can’t watch Bianca cry.. Too young sister to understand stigma.. Indeed cancer is a great challenge in present society.. Govt need to put in place measure to diagnosed early cancer Let help this young sister please.”
@GungaKadzo said: “Kenyans are the most beautiful human beings. Showing up in support of Bianca Wambui. Surely one day cancer shall die and stop stealing our beautiful ones.!!!”
@ranijosiscky said: “ Last night’s #JKLive is a true manifestation of the Kenyan spirit. The spirit of impossibilities when united to action of goodwill. We can also transform the health system for Bianca and other cancer fighters in the country.”
@Denzie254 noted:” The kind of humanity in Kenya is just on another level.”
@ItsBravin tweeted: “Kenyans really can work wonders. We have so far managed to raise ksh 2.5m for Bianca Wanjiru to undergo cancer treatment up from Ksh. 12,000 Which was in her Paybill when she came to #JKLive. Humanity is still alive in Kenyans for sure.”
Wambui, we all wish you…
Wambui, we all wish you quick recovery; May God grant your wishes.
Thank you Kenyans for unity and kind heart. We now need to raise money to build local cancer hospitals and research centers.
Where there is will, there is way. Let’s do it for the next boy and girl.
The solution from our leaders, is to go outside the country for treatment; our solution for all others is to remain in the country. So let’s make good things happen in Kenya, not without.
That’s one of JOMO’S LEGACY…
That’s one of JOMO’S LEGACY…HARAMBE…
If only the politicians curbed down corruption and self enrichment at the expense of the common mwanainchi ….things would be very different..
Hongera Wakenya.
May the almighty God heal…
May the almighty God heal her.
Good show Kenyans. If we can…
