IEBC Announces Date for Kibra Parliamentary By-Election

Voters in Kibra Constituency will go back to the ballot in November to elect a new Member of Parliament.

This comes after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday announced November 7th as the day when the Kibra parliamentary by-election will be held.

In a gazette notice, IEBC said political parties seeking to participate in the by-election must submit names of their respective candidates for nomination before August 26th. The electoral commission said nominations will take place on September 9th and 10th.

IEBC further said campaigning period will run between September 9th and November 4th — 48 hours before voting.

“Campaign time shall run from 7 am to 6 pm during the campaign period,” IEBC announced.

The Kibra seat fell vacant after the death of former Member of Parliament Ken Okoth, who succumbed to colorectal cancer on July 26th.

Okoth, who died at the age of 41, was cremated in a private function held at Kariakor Crematorium in Nairobi.
