Officers from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have nabbed three luxury vehicles that were reportedly stolen from the United Kingdom and illegally shipped to Kenya.
KRA said the three concealed high-end cars worth Sh40 million were seized at the Port of Mombasa during a verification process at the Container Freight Station (CFS).
The two Range Rovers and a Mercedes Benz were concealed in a container that was declared to be carrying household goods.
“The container which had been declared to contain personal and household effects were inspected non-intrusively using the Customs X-ray scanner in Mombasa. The scanner image revealed that the contents of the container were three high-end motor vehicles, inconsistent with the declaration,” KRA noted.
KRA said the manifest indicated that the cargo originated from the United Kingdom and was destined for Kampala, Uganda.
“Kenya Revenue Authority is working in partnership with the local and international investigation and enforcement agents including the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Kenyan and International Police (Interpol) to get to the root of the syndicate,” KRA said in a statement.
