President Kenyatta has promised that the government will boost interventions aimed at curbing the number of cancer-related deaths in the country.
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, Kenyatta said the government is collaborating with partners to put up measures aimed at making it easier for Kenyans to get cancer treatment.
“We need to see what more we can do to assist both in prevention but also in the treatment of the disease. And we need to do that as a Government together with the county governments,” Kenyatta said.
“This is an issue that we need to take more seriously and galvanize all of us to come up with a solution both in preventive –which is most important – but also in helping fellow Kenyans to get treatment, and get it early for those already affected by the disease,” he added.
Cancer has recently claimed the lives of Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso, Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth and Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore.
Cancer is rated the third leading killer disease in Kenya behind pneumonia and malaria, contributing to seven percent of the total deaths.
Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said that 47,887 new cases of cancer are recorded annually in Kenya while 32,987 succumb to the disease each year. There have been calls to declare cancer a national disaster.
I hope this is not just…
I hope this is not just baloney or empty talk. Healthcare should be your number one priority from now on. Let this be your legacy, otherwise you will be remembered as the president who presided over the most corrupt government in history and sold Kenya to the Chinese by increasing debt to unmanageable levels.
Way to go Mr. President -…
Way to go Mr. President – the ministry of Agriculture to play a big role in food production fit for human consumption.
Mr. President, you need to…
Mr. President, you need to find out who in your current government has cancer because they need to resign and take care of their personal business. They are currently a threat to National security. We must ask ourselves, what would happen if they all succumbed to cancer tomorrow.
The cancer of corruption is the breeding ground of all the medical cancer and all other cancers. If you stop corruption you have already stopped cancer. Excess greed is what will consume our human resources.
This is as a result of your government licensing foreigners to feed our nation. With corruption anything is brought into the country good or bad. We have become the damping ground.
We wish you the best. Without stopping corruption, cancer will be at all times high. The higher the corruption, so will be the suffering of Mwananchi.
No one is in jail due to corruption. The game has been, catch, bail, release.
The key is early detection…
The key is early detection and early treatment.
What is the plan again? I…
What is the plan again? I missed it. All I see is
– a vague promise
– an even more vague “government is collaborating with partners to put up measures aim”
– Another vague “We need to see what more we can do to assist both in prevention”
