Two Suspected Criminals Gunned Down in Shootout with Police after Robbing Nigerian National in Nairobi

Two suspected gangsters were on Monday night gunned down by police officers in Nairobi moments after stealing from a Nigerian national.

Police said the two were part of a four-man armed gang that ambushed and robbed the Nigerian man identified as Taiwo Gbengaof in Nairobi’s Kilimani area before escaping in a white saloon car of registration number KCE 567 B.

Taiwo, who reported the incident at Kileleshwa Police Station, said he was walking along Makueni Road in Kileleshwa when the criminals accosted him and stole two mobile phones- iPhone X max, Samsung Galaxy S8-and a wallet containing his bank cards.

They also fled with his driving license, alien card, special pass clearance, a wedding ring worth Sh25,000 and a wristwatch.
Officers from Kileleshwa Police Station and Special Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) were dispatched to pursue the robbers.

They spotted the car the thugs were using along Nyando road and a shootout ensued, leading to the fatal shooting of two of the suspects while the other two escaped with gunshot wounds.

Police said the registration number of the Toyota Axio car the suspects were using did not match those on the windows and insurance sticker.

A shotgun, a fake pistol, two mobile phones, a claw bar, four master keys, seven bunches of keys, a gunny bag, and a wristwatch were recovered from the suspects.

The bodies of the two were taken to City Mortuary where they await identification. Officers also launched hunt for the two suspects who managed to escape.
