Huduma Centre Hit by Sh266 Million Scandal

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has opened a probe into the alleged loss of Sh266 million at Huduma Centers.

The lost funds were reportedly collected from the issuance of Certificate of Good Conduct in different Huduma Centres across the country.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said Sh639.5 million was collected after 639,546 certificates were issued at a fee of Sh1,000 each, but only Sh373.2 million was remitted to the Ministry.

Appearing before National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Kibicho said the balance of Sh266.2 million cannot be accounted for.

“We have raised the matter with DCI and investigations have started on this Huduma Centre,” said Kibicho.

Kibicho explained that the Ministry cannot terminate the contract it has with Huduma Centres since such a move would cripple delivery of crucial government services to millions of Kenyans.

PS Kibicho further said that he was aware that Huduma Centre entered into a contract with Postal Corporation of Kenya to collects payments on their behalf.

Speaking during the 7th African Public Service Day at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) last month, President Uhuru said the country has saved more Sh74 billion through Huduma Centres.

Kenyatta further noted that the 52 Huduma Centres spread across Kenya have served more 24 million Kenyans since inception in November 2013.

“These centers offer over 104 different services with a customer satisfaction level of 95 percent,” Uhuru said.

Terrible.
