Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and regulatory bodies have ordered a probe into a suspected case of negligence at Shalom Hospital in Athi River.
This comes after a woman was allegedly left to give birth at the hospital’s reception area as nurses watched and enjoyed their tea.
Top health officials from the Machakos County Government have on Monday toured the facility to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident that was captured on camera by a patient’s husband.
Officials from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) and Nurses Union have also made their way to the hospital to probe the incident.
“Officials from my Government and the Kenya Medical Board & Nursing board will this morning visit the privately owned & managed Shalom Hospital in Athi River. We will not allow patients in any facility – Govt or otherwise – in my region, to be treated inhumanely. Watajua Hawajui,” says Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua in a social media post.
The incident was exposed over the weekend after a video filmed by a man who had taken his wife to the hospital went viral online.
The man said the woman in labor was brought into the facility on a wheelchair and three nurses who were on duty were notified that it was an emergency case.
However, the nurses continued taking their tea and ignored the woman despite her begging for assistance.
She was helped by the man to stand from the wheelchair but the baby was coming out and dropped to the floor.
This forced one of the nurses to swing into action to pick the child from the floor as the other moved to attend to the woman.
The man recording the video is heard scolding the nurses for failing to attend to the woman.
These nurses need to be…
These nurses need to be charged for negligence. If there were 3 nurses on duty. All of them should not have taken their tea break at the same time. Common sense is not common. Even cashier in a supermarkets do not take lunch break at the same time.
Gavana Mutua, nakuheshimu,…
Welcome to the SHIT HOLE…
Welcome to the SHIT HOLE youngling!!! Even the new generation are not spared the fatal reality of Kenya.

Even the infant arrived with a BANG in the shit hole country. The nurses are behaving like savages after witnessing death, after death, after death. They need therapy. If they take care of 40 to fifty 50 patients per day most of them in critical condition how are they able to help all? Their pay can’t even make ends meet. After taxes they pocket $200 per month. They are better off being mama mbogas. But get this, M-Pigs can fly first class, get allowance of $1000 per day and NOT even attend the conferences they went for opting to shop instead. Others are contributing 5-15 million to churches. Why can’t Kenya hire more nurses, pay them more and expect more in return? These nurses should be fired BUT unfortunately this will not solve the problem.
Nothing done until they all…
Nothing done until they all lose their jobs! Wajue hawajui!

This is a very bad scenario,…
This is a very bad scenario, but before we indulge ourselves into a blame culture, we need to ask ourselves the following questions?
1. Was this woman attending her clinics and prenatal services?
2.Was it a normal delivery or was it abortion gone wrong somewhere else?. Abortion will trigger nurses to behave like animals FYI.
3.Were there tools for nurses like hoyer lifts etc?
4.How competent are these nurses?.
5. Did the family member attempt to help?
…watching ‘John Q’ movie can enlighten patients a lot.
