Members of Parliament have on Wednesday approved the nomination of Prof. George Magoha as Education Cabinet Secretary.
The MPs have cleared Magoha during a special motion on a report tabled by the Appointments Committee following his vetting last week.
MPs have taken to the floor of the house to heap praises on Prof. Magoha, highlighting his achievements during his stint in public service.
The parliamentarians say President Kenyatta made the right decision in nominating him to the position.
Minority Leader John Mbadi says the nominee impressed the parliamentary committee during his vetting.
He says Magoha is fit for the Education docket given his wide experience and exposure in the public service.
Mbadi further says the vetting committee unanimously approved his nomination and no MP expressed any disagreement with the findings.
“Prof. Magoha is a person of strong character and will tell you his mind the way it is. He will not lie to you so that he can convince you to support him. That type of person is the one we need in the Ministry of Education,” says Deputy Majority Leader Jimmy Angwenyi.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa says Prof. Magoha has left a legacy in every position he has served in.
“When you do a trend analysis, you can see that everywhere Prof. Magoha has been going he has been successful. And when you extrapolate that trend, you realize that even if he becomes the CS of Education, I have no doubt he is going to succeed,” says Wamalwa.
Seme MP Nyikal James notes: “I know his no-nonsense stance may sometimes be mistaken by some people as arrogance, but I can tell you Prof. Magoha is humble enough to quickly accept if there is a mistake that he has made. We need him at this time when we have so many commendable projects in the Ministry of Education that need harmonization and competent management.”
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who served as a student leader during Prof. Magoha’s tenure as the University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, has described him as “a man who means what he says, and says what he means.”
“For university fees not to be increased, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S; For our children to get quality education, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S; For our suspended and expelled children and brothers and sisters to be brought back to campus, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S,” says Owino.
“For comrades not to be shot anyhow and killed, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S; For our children to be fully God-fearing, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S; Whether the sky comes to the ground, or the ground goes to the sky, Prof. Magoha must be the Education C.S. And this is the best decision our President made this year.”
