A Nairobi lawyer who claims to have accidentally shot dead his son on Sunday has been arrested and detained.
Assa Nyakundi Kibagedi, a city-based advocate, says he was trying to holster his gun when he accidentally shot his 29-year-old son.
Kibagendi says they were in the car when he shot his son on the chest.
He immediately rushed him to Aga Khan Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A statement recorded at Muthaiga Police Station indicates the two were heading home from ICC Church on Mombasa Road on Sunday afternoon.
As the lawyer approached his Muthaiga North home, he reached for his pistol to holster it but accidentally pulled the trigger shooting his son who was on the back seat.
Police have since confiscated the gun, which had 14 rounds of ammunition. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
“The reportee who is a civilian firearm holder has been detained to assist in further investigations. The said firearm loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm and the m/v has been kept as exhibits,” police say.
The body of the deceased has been moved to Aga Khan Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

If you do not know how to handle a firearm you should not own one. Furthermore it sounds really suspicious it went off and hit the son right on the chest to ensure maximum impact. You may have birthed no sorry your wife or significant other did that but you do not have the right to take him out no matter what he may have done.Hope you get to spend time with the same felons you have helped put away. It sounds like you are beyond anger management time in prison will do you good.
