26 Kenyan universities have been found to be offering unapproved courses to more than 10,000 students.
In a report, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) says that the institutions of higher learning are offering the courses without approval from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
This means that the affected students will get academic papers that cannot help them secure jobs in the market.
Some universities whose programs the commission says have been scrapped maintain that they are not offering unapproved courses.
Tom Mboya University College has the highest number of unapproved courses (25) followed by Garissa University (10), Alupe University (10), Great Lakes University of Kisumu (8) and Kenya Highlands Evangelical University (7), University of Embu (6), Lukenya University (6) and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (6).
Others are; Turkana University College (5), Kenyatta University (4) Karatina University (4), Moi University (3), Mama Ngina University (3), Kabarak University (2) and Kenya Methodist University (2).
