MP Moses Kuria Endorses Push for Referendum, Wants Prime Minister's Seat Re-established

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has written to the Building Bridges taskforce over the proposed referendum to alter the country’s government structure.

In a raft of proposals submitted to the team formed after the famous March 9th handshake between President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Kuria has expressed his support for the plan to introduce changes to the law.

In his memorandum, Kuria proposes the expansion of the executive arm of the government to include the position of a Prime Minister.

He wants the executive to comprise of the President, Deputy President, Prime Minister, and two deputy Prime Ministers.

The Jubilee MP proposes that the persons nominated for President and Deputy President positions by political parties shall not be members of Parliament.

He, however, suggests that candidates fronted for the Prime Minister’s seat may contest for a parliamentary seat or be nominated automatically if the presidential candidate in his/her party wins the election.

Kuria proposes that each of the two deputy Prime Minister’s posts is filled by a person who is eligible for election as MP and the other by a person eligible for election as Senator.

“The second deputy Prime Minister who may vie as a member of the Senate and who, if not be elected, will automatically become a nominated member of the Senate if the President wins,” he says in his memorandum.

Kuria also says that not more than one candidate for the above five positions shall be from the same tribe.

“The Prime Minister and the Deputy Premier shall be members of Cabinet,” he states.

If the changes to the constitution are for the good of the whole country, there should be a clause stating that the Dynasties will not be included in the new structure. They will not participate in the new government. That is: The Kenyattas; Odinga’s and the M oi’s.
This will give Kenya new thinking and no entitlement. This will be enough prove that they are not doing this to benefit themselves and hold on to power but that they are genuinely doing it for the sake of the country and posterity.
God save Kenya. God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!!
