President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday attended the wedding of Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s daughter, Makena at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, ending speculations of a rift between them.
Kenyatta and Ruto had not been spotted together for more than three weeks, raising questions over their relationship amid a storm in the Jubilee caused by the President’s ally and former party vice-chairperson David Murathe.
On Saturday morning, Defense Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo read President Kenyatta’s speech at the installation ceremony of Rev. Philip Anyolo as the new Kisumu Catholic diocese archbishop despite Ruto being present at the function. This further appeared to confirm rumors that there was bad blood between the two.
However, Kenyatta and Ruto graced the wedding ceremony where Ms. Makena tied the knot with James Bukusi. The two were seen sharing jokes and laughter as usual, with no sign of any cracks between them.
Other leaders present at the function are Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, former Minister Chris Murungaru and former Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura among others.
“We celebrate the coming together of our people. This generation is doing tremendous things because they do not see barriers amongst them. They see the person they went to school with and the person they work with. That is whom they respect. That is who they fall in love with and marry,” President Uhuru said at the function.
