Peter Kenneth, Martha Karua Lead Mt. Kenya Leaders in Demanding Respect for President Uhuru

Former presidential candidates Peter Kenneth and Martha Karua have led a section of leaders drawn from Mt. Kenya region in demanding respect for President Kenyatta.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday, the leaders have defended Kenyatta against accusations of starving his political stronghold of development.

The over 20 elected and former leaders have asked those aggrieved by the President to use right channels to voice their complaints instead of insulting him.

“We demand respect for the President as the Head of State, Head of Government and symbol of national unity; individuals with divergent views must criticize or correct the President with decorum and respect,” Kenneth says.

On her part, Karua has described those accusing President Uhuru of neglecting Central Kenya as selfish and unpatriotic.

“The President and former Prime Minister set aside their political differences to drive the Building Bridges Initiative and it is therefore unpatriotic of some politicians to start sabotaging this initiative for their personal political gain,” Karua states.

The leaders were responding to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri, who have accused President Uhuru of leaving Central Kenya out of Jubilee government’s development agenda.

“For Members of Parliament, they have the CDF so before they criticize anybody else, they should first show what they have done on the ground with that money and we are telling them that Mount Kenya region is a very organized society; if anybody thinks they can lash out at the President for their political mileage, they should think twice,” says Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Ms. Karua has also defended the President over ‘washenzi’ remarks, saying they were not directed at Mt. Kenya voters as has been claimed.

“I am not a member of his party, but he is my President and I support him. I have seen people making it look like the washenzi remark was directed to the voters and it is clearly not true; those remarks were meant for those irritating him not the voters and it must be made clear,” says Karua.

‘Washenzi’ means morons and I support our president for using that term. Kimani Ngujiri and Kuria need to understand that it’s easy to fight a brother and such act has a consequence. David Mwenje was once used my Moi to fight Kibaki and the late Josphat Karanja. What followed was a an era of a political depression in kikuyuland. So who is using these thugs?…kama hamjui..jueni.

    • First, as a President, you…
First, as a President, you don’t hurl insults. You tone down the rhetoric and offer mature response. As a President, your are accountable to Kenyans. That why he won our votes. We employed him for the next five year with check & balances. Moses Kuria was not being used by anyone, he was relying back the feedback from his constituent he represent in Gatundu South. He may have appeared drunk when relying that messag but at least he said the truth. We don’t shoot the messenger. By President responding back to those Washenzi , he bring back old bad days of Vinyagarikas na kutiwa nguvuni without trial political memes. There is a biblical wisdom that goes like this.” Whosoever is given much, much is expected”. In a free and democratic Society, being a President is not a walk in the park. If President can’t handle the Kitchen heat, he can revert the Nation back to Defacto One Party state.

Martha Karua and PK, you political shinning Stars are fast dimming toward oblivion. This is yet another chance you screwed-up. You failed to stand-up with the Voters who woke up early in the dawn hours, queued long lines even carrying Githeri to vote for Jubilee. Now, you want everyone to belief your Story. Bure Kabisa!

Freedom of speech or that is not part of the so called democracy some bitterly fought for …..I will say like Moi Democrathy gitu gani? 🙂

Enemy of my enemy becomes my friend is in play here. Who are these folks representing? For now while their leadership is as dead as a dodo, this lineup here is hoping to cash in on the handshake, priding themselves as the alternative Mt. Kenya leadership.
