Chief Justice David Maraga and his wife Yucabeth Nyaboke were on Saturday morning involved in a road accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The two were rushed to the War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru town for treatment following the early morning accident. Maraga and his wife were heading to church from their Nakuru residence when the accident happened.
“My wife and I were involved in an accident in Nakuru this morning on our way to Church. We are undergoing medical observation. My driver and aide who were with us are also okay. We thank God for His mercies. Thank you Kenyans for your prayers and concern,” Maraga says in a tweet on his Twitter handle.
The two have been airlifted to Nairobi for comprehensive medical attention by the military following President Kenyatta’s orders.
“We had a minor accident this morning as we were going to church here on Ngata road but we have been attended, we are fine. We are fine, there is no cause for alarm at all, we are just going to Nairobi because everybody wants to be sure that we are fine. So, there is no cause for alarm, it’s just this is a minor laceration which the doctors have managed here very well so we are going to Nairobi,” he told journalists who were camped outside the War Memorial Hospital.
The crash left the bonnet and front bumper of the Mercedes Benz car they were traveling in badly damaged and the impact caused the airbags to deploy.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mongo Chimwaga says the CJ sustained head injuries but is reported to be in a stable condition.
