Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man masquerading as a National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer.
DCI says the suspect, identified as Fredrick Muhanji Mangala alias Douglas Simiyu, is the man behind State House laptop tenders fraud that has seen several Kenyans lose millions of shillings.
The suspect was arrested in Kakamega on Tuesday and has been arraigned in court where he has been charged with obtaining money under false pretences.
“Fredrick Muhanji Mangala alias Douglas Simiyu~a man who personates to be a National Intelligence Service Officer & the Master Planner of the Fake Tender to supply Laptops to State House was arrested in Kakamega. His co-accused already charged before Court,” DCI says in a tweet.
The arrest of Muhanji comes weeks after DCI officers arrested four other suspects; Eric Otieno Atanga, David Mapili, Jackson Kiharo, George Ochieng Onyango and Mercy Wahiga Wanjiku in connection with the fake State House laptop scam.
One of the victim by the name Charles Gathii says he was conned Sh240 million after Simiyu fooled him with a fake tender from State House.
