ICC Calls for Arrest of Three Kenyans over Witness Interference

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has called for the arrest of three Kenyans accused of interfering with witnesses in order to withdraw their testimonies.

ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda says the three; lawyers Paul Gicheru and Phillip Kipkoech Bett as well journalist Walter Barasa are wanted by her office for trial, Daily Nation reports.

Gicheru, Bett and Barasa are accused of bribing and offering other inducements to several prosecution witnesses to recant their evidences in the case against Deputy President William Ruto.

“High-level political commitment and consistent diplomatic coordination between States and other actors is needed to address the arrest challenge,” Bensouda states.

“If left unaddressed, it will have a negligible impact on specific or general deterrence and prevention of the world’s gravest crimes,” she adds.

“ICC relies on State cooperation worldwide to arrest and transfer (suspects) to the Court,” ICC says in a tweet in regard to each of the three suspects.

The Hague-based court terminated cases facing President Kenyatta, Deputy President Ruto and former Radio Journalist Joshua arap Sang due to lack of witnesses.

The ICC continues to accuse Kenya of non-cooperation as the three continue to walk scot free even after warrants of arrest were issued against them by the international court a few years ago.

“From the moment the Court’s judges issue an arrest warrant, responsibility for its execution falls on States Parties, as the Court’s executive arm, alongside any other States that may be under an obligation to cooperate. Impunity and instability are closely interrelated. When an alleged perpetrator of Rome Statute crimes remains at large, he or she may continue to commit crimes,” states Bensouda.

“State Parties and Assembly of State Parties must take appropriate action in response to the Court’s findings of non-compliance on failure to arrest and surrender ICC suspects. My Office will continue to pursue non-compliance findings under Article 87 (7) of Rome Statute,” she adds.

The International Colonial Court (ICC) is at it again. Kenya is coming closer to elections and this court is starting to cause anxiety among Kenyans again by reviving rumours and fake news (divide and rule). For seven years it achieved nothing but wasting Kenyans time. We hope Kenyans will ignore this useless court that was created to harass Abrikans. May this court be ignored and fade away and never be heard again. May all Abrikan countries exit it’s agreement.
