Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO) has announced that it is holding controversial Nairobi-based self-declared South Sudanese tycoon Lawrence Lual Malong Yor Jr.
Malong was reported missing on November 22nd, with members of his family claiming that he was arrested by Ugandan military officers at his Milano Hotel room in Kabalagala, Uganda. However, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) was quick to deny the reports.
Speaking to the media, ISO Director-General Kaka Bagyenda says they arrested Malong over a number of criminal activities.
“He (Mr Malong Jr) is a person of interest to us and it’s true that we have him. He is helping us with investigations and at the right time, you will be informed of the charges he will face,” says Bagyenda.
Malong is suspected to be part of a fake gold dealing scam, which has seen several foreign citizens lose millions of shillings.
Asked to reveal the source of his wealth during an interview with Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange a few weeks ago, Malong said “I got my wealth from my Lord Jesus Christ.”
“My Lord Jesus Christ blessed me; I fly on private jets. I live in Presidential suites. I am blessed.”
A video of Malong ‘swimming’ in one million dollars at his hotel room in Nairobi went viral on social media a few weeks ago.
