The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet says Kenyan police officers will begin wearing new uniforms on December 12th.
Boinnet says the National Youth Services (NYS) was awarded the contract to make and supply the new uniforms launched by President Kenyatta in September.
Boinnet says NYS is manufacturing 60,000 pieces of the new uniforms that will be ready before December 12th.
Although he has not revealed the cost of the tender awarded to NYS, Boinnet says the National Police Service will save millions of shillings it would have spent to import or award the contract to other companies.
The officers will wear the uniform during this year’s Jamhuri Day Celebrations.
“They (NYS) are burning the midnight oil to beat the deadline of distributing the uniforms to officers ahead of the launch on Jamhuri Day,” an officer privy to the matter told The Standard.

How did we get to this kind of uniform? Yaani Kenya mtu akilala na aamke anaifanya ndoto kuwa sheria? Give me a break leaders. How sure are we that these uniforms are being made by the NYS and not China? How was the tender awarded? Wakenya wenzangu mnipe jibu.

Someone must love blue because even the new passport is blue. Kenya Airways will soon be blue.

We understand they are “Boys in blue” and blue is color of security. They say blue means trust, honesty and may suppress appetite (hopefully ya kitu kidogo and corruption) but we did not mean this blue! This blue seems to suck confidence out of the men and women wearing it. Anyhow in Jamhuri, that is just the way the cookie crumbles.
