Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have received a major boost in their fight against Al-Shabaab.
The Kenyan military has received 12 Bastion Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) donated by the United States to boost surveillance at the porous Kenya-Somalia border.
US Defence Attaché and Senior Defence Official Colonel Kevin Balisky says the vehicles can withstand Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) used by extremists to blow up military vehicles.
“These vehicles represent the unwavering US commitment to Kenya and our shared national security interests,” Colonel Balisky says.
“As the KDF continues to conduct daily operations against violent extremism, these vehicles will enhance the mobility and force protection of their troops in harm’s way.”
In the last few months, several Kenyan army and police officers have lost their lives to IED attacks by Al-Shabaab militants.
In June, five police officers lost their lives after a vehicle ferrying them run over an IED in Liboi area near the Kenya-Somalia border.
In August, five Kenya Defence Forces soldiers were killed in a similar attack on the Kiunga-Sankuri Road in Lamu County. Ten other military personnel sustained serious injuries.
Another IED attack near the border in May claimed the lives of eight soldiers while two others were left with serious injuries. The officers were aboard a vehicle which was blown up by an IED.

They don’t use these in Iraq. Why are they giving substandard equipment.
Tangibles like equipment are…
Tangibles like equipment are at times the way to go in face of runaway corruption. Had it been in cash, preconditions and ideology would have been rubbed on the face. Then the looters would have a field day on the cash. Eventually we will have nothing to show for it.

It’s hard to believe…
It’s hard to believe. Sometimes even hard to remember. That Kenya is at war. A war we CANNOT AFFORD! A war that is killing young folks enlisting in the army and when killed in action they are whisked into the country through Wilson Airport. No questions asked. This is precisely why even though the US knew that there were elections irregularities in the last General Elections, they couldn’t say anything against Uhuru because he supported the war and Raila didn’t. More questions need to be asked. TOUGH questions and people need not rest until they get answers. Today, they will be giving 12 Armoured vehicles, tomorrow it’s gonna be guns! These guns are gonna end ylup in the streets. Think clearly and have all the answers before supporting certain leaders. Elections are long gone but there are other measures to curb this utter misuse of power in Kenya. I’m not vouching for any leader currently in place because I see them all as Corrupt, Tribal, Self-centered and Irresponsible but there are measures to raise certain issues that can help alleviate problems down the line. If you hear that they’ve discovered oil in Turkana and then all over sudden we have this “military partnerships” with US. So many red-flags are raised here. Kenyans should not take everything on face value. Remember the US or any other first world country ONLY FOLLOWS IT’S NATIONAL INTEREST. When they will be done with Kenya, tutajua hatujui! These leaders are screwing up the country vibaya tena sana.
