Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has refuted reports claiming that police at the Kenya-Somalia border accepted bribes from Al Shabaab militants in order to grant them entry into the country.
In a recently released report, the United Nations claims that Kenyan security officers accepted as little as Sh2,000 from Al Shabaab terrorists.
The report by the UN says the Kenyan security forces granted five suicide bombers entry into the country in February after receiving bribes.
“The truth of the matter is we worked extremely hard and we do so willingly to protect and secure our people,” says Boinett.
Kenyan officers in February arrested two suspected Al Shabaab members identified as Abdimajit Hasan Adan and Mohammed Nanne Osman. The two were in a vehicle laden with explosives and were reportedly headed to Nairobi to execute a major terror attack.
The UN claims that Adan and Nanne made numerous trips back and forth across the border and faced no resistance from Kenyan police officers manning the border.
Boinnet denies the claims by UN, stating that the border is tightly secured by committed Kenyan troops. “The interception of the vehicle in Merti was not something that happened by chance. There was a lot of background work done by a number of agencies to ensure the vehicle does not cross and we got it,” adds Boinnet.

Kenya is a FAILED state…
Kenya is a FAILED state whose Police NEVER take blame for Accepting bribes (and everything else “Policically” criminal). They’re as suck PATHOLOGICAL deniers (from Top to bottom) after all the Top demands a certain daily Bribe QUOTA to be Met (by the Juniors) everyday.
Why is the UN patronizing…
Why is the UN patronizing Kenya? Kenya is a sovereign state. It does not need foreigners to tell it what it can and cannot do and especially as it relates to National Security. That is internal affairs of a country that should not be interfered with by a foreign body. This is how foreigners start info wars, fake news and war mongering. UN should leave Kenya alone. Having said that, Kenya needs to take care of its business.
God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!!
Patronizing means:
“Treating…
Patronizing means:
“Treating with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority (or Conscience).” So in this case: The UN is not PATRONIZING Kenya; instead it’s BASHING Kenya (i.e strongly criticising Kenya).
The government should…
The government should publish this UN report and have wananchi make their own mind. Corruption at the boarder between Kenya and somalia is not news.We have heard this beffore.
If true this report is of course embarrassing to the government. Now the question is why would UN make up such a story?
To Mr Boinnet I say, its true that we have Kenya forces, and police who are honest, dedicated, and risk their lives for the country they love-KENYA. But you also have to acknowledge that, just like any organization, there are bad apples. When international transparency reports that police is the most corrupt government department in Kenya, that does not negate the fact that there are honest police men,and women.
Mr. Boinnet should tell UN that,”If your report is true, bring these corrupt individual-if still alive, and we shall charge them with treason, which carries death sentence”.
This is very serious allegation, and the government should not be quick to discount it.And if UN is publishing false accusations as facts, I am sure the legal arm of the government can take care of that .
