Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru says she has dropped a defamation suit she filed against opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The announcement comes following a meeting with Odinga at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi on Wednesday.
“Just had a meeting with former Prime Minister H.E Right Honorable @RailaOdinga on the outstanding matter in court,” She says in a tweet.
“In the spirit of cohesion and reconciliation in the country, the matter stands settled,” Waiguru added.
Waiguru has sued Odinga for defamation in 2015 for claiming that she mastermind a scheme that saw Sh791 million lost at the National Youth Service (NYS). Waiguru was at the time the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Devolution.
In February this year, Waiguru opposed Raila’s bid to have the case suspended to allow him file an appeal over a ruling issued earlier. In the ruling, the allowed the Governor to conceal certain information about her lifestyle.
“Throughout the course of this matter, Odinga has made numerous attempts to delay the matter, including failing to comply with civil procedure rules and requesting adjournments on a number of occasions,” said Waiguru.
“I am apprehensive that further delay will prejudice me by compromising the availability of my witness and her ability to recall matters pertinent to this suit.”
