Narcotics worth millions of shillings have been seized at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKI) in Nairobi.
The drugs were nabbed after an operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
In a statement, DCI says the narcotics which comprised of heroine and methamphetamine were stashed in a box containing make-up kits.
Authorities say the narcotics were destined for China and New Zealand. The owners of the package are still at large.
“Narcotics(Heroin & methamphetamine)worth millions of shillings,found concealed in a carton containing Makeup Kits & destined for #NewZealand and #China was on Tuesday afternoon confiscated by @DCI_Kenya Detectives. Investigations already commenced to nab those involved,” DCI says in a tweet.
In April, about 20 kilograms of heroin concealed in Kericho Gold tea were seized at JKIA.
In August, officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) intercepted 26 vape cartridges filled with cannabis oil and five one-gram sachets of hashish. The drugs were hidden in a package of vitamin tablets sent via a courier service provider and marked as candy.
