Citizen television news anchor Jacque Maribe has been declared fit to stand trial after she was subjected to a mental assessment test on Thursday.
Her lawyer, Katwa Kigen, said the journalist will take plea alongside her fiancée Joseph Irungu alias Jowie on Monday as earlier scheduled.
The two failed to take plea when they were arraigned in court on Monday as the court said Maribe could not be allowed to do so before undergoing a mental assessment test.
Maribe and Irungu will be charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani who was found dead in her apartment in Nairobi’s Kilimani estate on September 20th.
Monica’s lifeless body was dumped inside a bathtub with the hands and legs tied, mouth taped and the throat slit. She was killed hours after jetting to Nairobi from South Sudan where she was running a family business.
Irungu is the main suspect in the case after initial investigations placed him at the scene of the crime. A CCTV footage also showed that he used Maribe’s car to get to Monica’s house at Lamuria Apartments on Kitale Lane, off Denis Pritt Road.
He reportedly later used the same vehicle, a Toyota Allion, to pick Maribe from an entertainment joint in Kilimani before proceeding to their Lang’ata home.
Maribe is currently being detained at Lang’ata Women’s Prison while Jowie is held at Industrial Area Remand Prison.
