50 People Perish in Grisly Dawn Bus Accident at Fort Tenan Black Spot in Kericho

At least 50 people have been confirmed dead following an early Wednesday morning accident involving a passenger bus along the Londiani-Muhoroni-Kisumu road within Kericho County.

The 67-seater bus was headed to Kisumu from Nairobi when it reportedly veered off the road and rolled over at Fort Tenan black spot.

Confirming the crash, Kericho Police Commandant James Mugera said among those who lost their lives were 31 males, 12 women and seven children.

Rift Valley traffic boss Zero Arome said no other vehicle was involved in the dawn accident. Those injured were rushed to Muhoroni hospital for treatment.

“The passengers were travelling in a bus branded Homeboyz. Those who sustained injuries have been rushed to Muhoroni hospital.’’

Eyewitnesses said the public service vehicle lost control while descending a steep slope before hitting a guard rail, rolling and plunging down about 20 metres. The accident happened at about 5am.

In a tweet, President Kenyatta sent his condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones in the crash even as he urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

“My heartfelt condolences to the families of fellow Kenyans who lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Fort Ternan in Kericho County this morning and wish those in hospital quick recovery,” Uhuru said.

“As authorities investigate the cause of the accident with a view of taking action, I would like to remind drivers to always exercise caution to avoid such catastrophic incidents.”

Does that mean Uhuru coursed the accident by tweeting and signing Chinese loans while driving the bus?Corruption is to blame for the accident.Right now no one can tell which department is to blame because there are several of them created by the poop constitution to do one job,i.e,in charge of traffic.Hii UPUUZI wa Boinet searching for bus owners is just to extort several thousands then the matter ends there.

Your statement summed it up, that drunk can’t manage shit, leave alone running a country. His subordinates are roaming around wildly looting left n right. They have no direction whatsoever, no clear job descriptions or delegations, too many hybrid positions doing the same thing or nothin at all, begged money evaporating in thin air,no one is ever held accountable and finally INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT FUNDS BEING REDIRECTED TO FAT CATS POCKETS. The bus was half way through the journey ‘safely’ without the permit.UNSAFE ROADS KILLED THESE POOR FOLKS, NOT A PERMITLESS BUS. STOP SCAPEGOATING AND GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. THEN KESHO ATA CHAPA TU MDOMO POINTING FINGERS AT HIS JUNIORS’ FACES AND BARKING TOOTHLESS THREATS LIKE A CHIHUAHUA. AM SURE THEY ALL LOL COZ HIS HANGOVERS WONT LET HIM REMEMBER A DAMN THING IN THE MORNING. ANYONE RUNNING A KIBANDA YA MBOGA LIKE THIS WOULDVE BEEN FIRED AN/OR LOCKED UP.LOUD ENOUGH???

Condolences to the affected families and friends, may almighty console you at these trying times, and may the departed Rest In Peace with the angels. If Mlevi has has a pinch of decency or a soul, he should focus 100% on making Kenya’s infrastructure safe for wanainchi instead of those cosmetic projects he insists on who’s main purpose is to fleece as much handouts as possible. What good is an expensive rail if more than 90% of folks use roads, which essentially are DEATH TRAPS, After-all, a leaders fundamental purpose is to guarantee, or aleast try to, the safety of his people.

  6. Remember corruption kills,…
Remember corruption kills, Kenyans have become expert liars and thieves… all of us, everybody trying to hustle the other and in the meantime we ignored some basics like safety and efficiency. Trump was right, Kenya is a sh*thole country especially the ruling elites. Uhuru just formed a 45 member commission to oversee his big Four crap, take care of people first then do more complex stuff.

  7. all PSV remember like 14…
all PSV remember like 14 seater.. seats are made by locals seat belts too fitted casually without any safety standards. those buses should undergo yearly thorough inspection for safety standards Manufacturers should be assessed..night travel should be well planed by owner and GVT you can do better pole sana for the sudden loss all families.

    @Romeo:

  9. @Imara, personal…
@Imara, personal responsibility is very important. Why are these drivers over speeding like they are carrying miraa to the airport? Why would anyone travel at night knowing these incompetent drivers over speed? Why would anyone not speak up if a mad man is behind the wheel? Why do people remove road signs when government installs them for JuaKali purposes? This complecency with us Kenyans has to stop. Just the other day this Russian was attacking and chasing after a security guard and no one stopped to question why this was happening. The government will never be a driver of these buses but can surely light up the road and replace signs but can not drill commonsense into the senseless. When brain transplants start to happen then alot will be needed in Kenya.

  10. Just in, another order for…
Just in, another order for 50 coffins, 200 bouquets of flowers, 50 crosses,50 hearses,200 passenger minibuses, 50 priests capable of conducting a funeral,50 sets of public address systems, and tons of rice, meat, bread and soda to feed the attendees. Surely, the death industry is doing well in Kenya today. We can expect a one point addition to the national economic growth index. So sad.
