US First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children's Home, Elephant Nursery in Nairobi

United States First Lady Melania Trump on Friday morning began her activities in Kenya after jetting in from Malawi on Thursday night.

Her first stop on Friday morning was the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s elephant nursery inside Nairobi National Park, accompanied by Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta. Here the two were seen feeding the orphaned baby elephants.

Melania’s entourage then proceeded to the Nest Children’s Orphanage in Nairobi where she spent time with children. The Children’s home rehabilitates and reintegrates orphaned and vulnerable children into extended families.

In the afternoon, Mrs Kenyatta hosted her US counterpart at State House, Nairobi where they held discussions on their shared interests in areas of health and welfare of mothers and children as well as conservation.

Mrs Kenyatta runs the Beyond Zero campaign, a health initiative for expectant women while Mrs Trump launched Be Best initiative to improve the welfare of children.

The two later visited Kenya National Theatre where they watched a 45-minute live cultural performance by Sarakasi group, a Kenyan dancing and acrobatic group.

Melania will leave Kenya for Egypt on Saturday where she will conclude her solo week-long tour of four African countries.
