Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has endorsed opposition leader Raila Odinga’s call for a constitutional referendum.
Taking to social media, Kuria said he will fully support Raila’s push but only if it’s about reducing the number of elective posts like he proposed in his ‘Punguza Mzigo’ initiative sometime back to ease the burden on Kenyan taxpayers.
“We have to reduce representative positions in order to provide moral leadership for a massive retrenchment of civil servants and rationalisation and optimisation of government functions and processes,” said Kuria.
The Jubilee MP said the referendum should not focus on creating positions for some few individuals.
“If the handshake will produce a Punguza Mzigo constitution, we are ready for it. If it comes with creating positions or disenfranchising our right to vote for a president directly, we will resist it with all our might under the guidance of God Almighty,” said the legislator.
Last week, Raila asked Kenyans to get ready for a referendum vote in 2019 noting that it is part of his pact with President Uhuru under the Building Bridges Initiative.
“The referendum will be the best thing for Kenyans as they will have the opportunity to address some of the long running problems that have been facing them,” Odinga said.
“We agreed with the President that as soon as the task force (Building Bridges) finishes collecting views across the country, the buck will stop with the people through another vote,” added Raila.
It is very scary when Raila…
It is very scary when Raila is pushing for the referendum. Where are the funds coming from for a referendum? Not too long ago, Raila made Kenya go through two unnecessary elections without caring how much it would cost Kenyans. In 2007, he Raila cried to the West just to create a parallel government not caring how much it was going to cost Kenyans. He brought the idea of 47 governors not caring how much it would cost Kenyans. It’s all about Raila. Through Raila, Kenya copies the West not caring whether what we are copying is good for Kenya or not. What is in a name? Look at the names he uses,Capital Hill; Pentagon; NASA. His ideas are not good for Kenya. Let him pass the leadership Burton to a new generation. Too many memorandums of Understanding, that those memorandums do not make sence any more. (More than fourty years of trying, too much blood in Raila’s hands; even the gods said No) No more Dynasties. Same old stale brains pushing for referendum. Kenya needs new energy and new thinking. All those in powerful positions today need to be voted out come 2022. Kenya is stagnant in development and thinking. We need leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!
